I think you are misunderstanding whats happening. PS4 R&D ate into the PS profits It has nothing to do with how much they are selling it for. All companies take a hit when R&D starts up for a console. Sony made a profit last quarter.
I like Wide Linear. Give me different ways and paths to tackle a situation but always having a clear goal and game pace in mind.

While marketing can be effective, ad marketing gets to a point of diminishing returns. After a certain ammount people just start to tune out ads.
What is important is those 1st few marketing dollars you spend to hook the consumer. If you fail on that end then your facing an uphill battle just like MS is doing now with the core because of the "TV, Sports, Call of duty", reeval of the XB1.
There is a differene when a 3rd party talks compared to a 1st party unless the 1st party studio has put out some games that show what there talking about.
Still You'll find other genre's near the top of PS3's list. Xbox is just more FPS's.
Nintendo per say isnt doomed. But Nintendo as a hardware console maker might be. Its looking more and more likely that the wii was an aberration on nintendo's downslide in the consle market.

Sony's exclusives dont include the indie games though. So they still have about 15 more to announce for the 1st year and then at least 10 more after that.
I do agree that 15 isnt a few though, its basically MS's exclusive 360 (not including downloadable or HD collection games) output for the last 4-5 years.
