dont get me wrong, i love my ps3, but my pc is light years ahead of it, but yes it does cost ALOT more than console gaming.
plus ill be enjoying 32 players online not 16/18.

all i can say is READ as much as you can. overclocking is not something to be taken lightly by a new comer (dont wanna call you a noob). also, these super high end CPUs arent needed for 99% of users, especailly if you want it mainly for games.
but once again, please READ READ READ, you dont wanna melt that new $300 cpu and void its warrenty!

no but seriously, Gears is still the benchmark for console graphics, not for long tho, theres a list of games as long as my arm coming in 2008 that will be better.
EDIT @ AllanWakker, name something better then! dude, im a ps3 fan but that doesnt mean i have to bash everything on that platform. admittidly maybe you could say Bioshock looked better but its an FPS, gears and uncharted are both 3rd person graphical power houses. your just a hater my friend...
if your pc is past its prime the ps3 version is the one to get. i hate buying a pc game only to have to play it at 'medium'. lucky my pc is a beast so i dont have to worry.

but i gotta say, the ps3 graphics are only just behind the PC, with in its self is a huge achievement for the console.
been playing the PC demo over and over lately and the amount of stuff going on is unbelieveable, it feels like a real war revolving around you. if the ps3 can handle all this action at 1080p and maintain a healthy frame rate, then perhaps the ps3 really is as powerful as sony said.

EDIT: exactly Darth, or do what one of my friends did, he bought a Q6600 and a water cooling kit and manged to overclock it from 2.4 to 3.6 and its completely stable. mines running at 2.79 (Q6600) and to be honest ive never see it use more than 70% so is there really a need for these super high end CPU's?
i disagree mate, the problem is movies cost so much to produce that companies only wanna make something that will guarantee their investment back. hence all the remakes and sequals.

and 2, you cant effect the way the game plays, so yeah in theory someone could make GoW like levels for UT3 but it would still be UT3
