People like to make fun of Pachter, but if he's so bad at his job why is he still employed?

It's certainly debatable where The Last of Us' story ranks among the all time great video game stories. However, it's definitely the most well told story I've ever seen in a video game. Never have I seen a game with so many subtle, character building moments.

Why does it matter if you had to shoot a doctor?

It frustrates me whenever somebody uses lack of choice as a legitimate reason to criticize a game narrative that never offered any choice to begin with. Quite frankly, I much prefer a strong, well written linear story than an uneven one with choice.

So excited for this game. I finished Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward recently, and I'm really craving a game like this.

DLC isn't inherently bad. I understand there are a lot more examples of abuse of customer loyalty through egregious costumes, optional characters, etc; however, DLC's like Mass Effect 2's Shadow Broker, Mass Effect 3's The Citadel and BioShock 2's Minerva's Den are just a few examples of excellent additions to a game.

Whenever microtransactions change the design of a game to make it longer, more frustrating and more of a grind that is absolutely a bad thing every time. It doesn't happen every time, and in some situations it COULD be a good option. However, I feel like the insidious nature of microtransactions and the lure of potential revenue far outweighs the slight advantages it could give to a certain amount of gamers.

I just get the sense that too many people at Square Enix have lost passion for making Final Fantasy games. It's very discouraging as a fan.

I bought my mother a Kindle Fire last year, and she's become hopelessly addicted to some goofy slot machine game. All it is is pushing a button. Still, she gets a lot of enjoyment out of it even though I don't understand why.

I can understand how somebody would enjoy Ryse. It's a beautiful game. It has cool themes and one of the best settings possible. It makes you feel like a badass.

Do I think Ryse is a great game? Far from it. Do I think it'...

Let's be fair here: The Wii U has been out a full year whereas the PS4 hasn't even been out a month. Sony has some exciting exclusives announced, plus the track record of the PS3 to give potential PS4 customers confidence that they will get great exclusive games.

So I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say.

The Wii had Call of Duty, sports games and some other third party stuff, but imagine all you'd be missing if that was the only last gen gaming platform you owned. It's not just that you'd miss the likes of Halo/Gears/Forza or the extensive PS3 library, but also the vast majority of major third party titles.

It will be pretty similar with the Wii U. Within a year most AAA multiplatform games that aren't cross-generation will likely not come to the Wii U. In two...

If you're ok with buying a Wii U only for exclusives, then go ahead. Nintendo is very consistent with their exclusives.

If you need more than Nintendo exclusives, especially all the third party games, then it wouldn't be very smart to get the Wii U.

If you plan on getting two consoles within a year or so, then get a Wii U and wait for more games to come out for the Xbox One and PS4 then decide which of the latter two you prefer.

In my...

Doesn't Gran Turismo normally have around 1,000 cars, if not more? If so, then it's entirely possible to have microtransactions without being obtrusive. I don't know if it will be like that in GT, I'm just saying it's possible.

I still don't like microtransactions in games though. The problem is that I can see how it could be a positive thing for some; I just think it's way to easy for it to become insidious and even hurt overall game design.

I apologize for being pretty ignorant on the subject, but if this means Sony wouldn't use Foxconn or another similar manufacturing plant then I'm all for it.

"Thats the whole point of a review! Its to advise your readers on whether or not the game is worth buying."

There are two types of reviews for Deadly Premonition. The first is clearly what you would say (I'll even use your own words), "The level design is Jericho bad. The controls are worse than Alone In the Dark. The graphics and art direction is pathetic..." and, "DP belongs to the 2s and 3s."

The second set of reviews basi...

@Persistantthug

Well, according to the Destructoid review circa 2010 it's a $20 budget title: http://www.destructoid.com/...

If there was a period of time before then when the game cost more then fair enough; but my understanding is there wasn't such a time. As for the PS3 version, which I own, I bought it new for $40, which is a little more of an investme...

If you actually read any reviews, you would have known that technically the game is atrocious - even compared to late-gen PS2 games. In fact, the game was designed to purposefully recreate the experiences of games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil...which of course would be antiquated by then. It's pretty clear you aren't in the small group of people this game targeted.

Besides, it was $20 on Xbox 360. You are complaining like you bought some expensive collector'...

One problem I think the Vita has is so many of the really good games are cross-buy with PS3, so many games are viewed just as much as PS3 games as a Vita game. There is still a decent selection of Vita-only games though.

Resogun isn't a free to play game. There are no microtransactions or DLC available. With PlayStation Plus, the game is free - completely. It's odd that you cannot outright buy the game at the moment though. I imagine its to push people to get PlayStation Plus and, quite frankly, considering you need it for online play and you get free games across three platforms there is little reason no to get it.

Also, the PS4 comes with a month of PS+ so worst case scenario you ge...

The Arkham games: The combat, at its most basic, is similar to Ryse. However, the key difference is the variety of gadgets that can be seamlessly integrated into the combat. Plus, there is a ton of content outside of just combat, including pseudo-platforming and puzzles.

Assassin's Creed: Similarly, the AC games have a pretty basic combat augmented by secondary attacks like throwing knives, bombs and throwing sand in enemies faces. Also, while there aren't really comb...
