Because of the amount of hype and popularity surrounding these games. Curiosity is nothing out of the ordinary.

A lot of people don't have their PCs hooked up to their living room and/or entertainment center (whether it's to avoid a lot of clutter or convenience of not hogging the only screen in the house).
Current Resistance 3 build looks miles better than Resistance 2 and the early Resistance 3 demo, even for a multiplayer Beta.
I've been playing 3rd Strike online all week long with a few friends and haven't had any problems.
Don't know about MK though, I haven't played it.

Operation Raccoon City is a straight up run-and-gun shooter. So if I'm to get a RE game then it's going to be RE4HD.

Nothing wrong with the SC collection if you never played them before and want to play the better SC games.
