@xjxdoggggy

Just the power savings alone is enough to make me happy.
The launch PS3 used 180w and the Slim uses 73w. Do you have any idea how many games that is per year in electric bills. The standby was 8w. That is around $100 per year (danish prices anyway) just to have it sitting in the outlet. (Same goes for the 360). I don't know what the slim uses on standby by I heard the 80GB used 2w. So the Slim is <2.

Me personally am gonna save $200-$300 on elect...

In Denmark the Slim is set to debut at 2799 kr. = $520.
I'm might just wait a week or two for the better deals. Unlike the US where it just plain and simple $299.

But It's all good. I sold my launch PS3 3 weeks ago for $640 (all the Slim rumors made me do it). Looks like I'm picking up the Slim and 2 games at the same price.

If you ask me Microsoft should have teamed up with a hardware company from the start. Make them build the machine and manage all software themselves. Microsoft have no business doing hardware.

Damn I hate my 360 died.
This and Shadow Complex looks really good. The first two XBLA games I have ever wanted. A month after my 360 Red Ring Died on me.

"Also, based on several game reviews I have read, the PS3 often suffers graphical glitches in its games that Microsoft's Xbox 360 simply does not."

Com on.. When did he read these reviews? Two years ago?

Today was the first day of the real next gen battle. Over the next year Sony will make up major grown. MS might cut $50 off in November, and that will give them a boost. But nothing like we will see for the PlayStation. This is the first time the PS3 has be...

@morganfell

That's low man. But sure did make me laugh.

I don't see MS doing a new 360 ever. They are a software company. If they did new hardware they would risk higher fail rates.

Bubble to you. "Fear driven" is the perfect way to describe it.

I sold my launch PS3 18 days ago today, because I knew the slim was comming and I didn't use the PS2 feature.
I got $640 for it with 6 games I would never spend another minute playing.
That being said, I paid about $950 for it.
Yeah. Denmark is not the cheapest country in the world.

But all in all I'm going make $150-200 and get a new PS3.

@AntoineDcoolette

I feel the same way. I have had 3 360's that all have died. I'm not spending another cent on something that is not built to last.
This head to head battle at the same price sure will be interesting.

I though they had done this already.
$299 vs $299. This marks the first day for the real battle for the next generation.

TGS for sure. The want to share it in Japan.

My launch PS3 60GB used 150w on average.
The next model cut it down to about 100w.
The 80GB model cut it down to about 80w.
Meaning the Slim should be a little over 50w.

For anyone who pays for their own electric bill or thinks about the environment. The Slim is a must.

I stopped gaming in 2004 I think. After having been an active gamer since Commedore 64 (C64-Amiga500-Playstation1-Pla ystation2). Six months after the 360 came out I bought one, and got hocked again.

Now after my 3rd 360 died I have no console (not getting another 360)... I Sold my PS3 2 weeks ago because I want a slim.... So I guess I stopped gaming again for a month or two.

Most polls you read about on anything has 1000 people or less in them.
5000 is a big number for any poll. A poll with the right demographic with 100 people will usually hit within 5% of the correct number.

For me it's 100%. 3 consoles all died of RRoD.

The first I had bough on Ebay with no invoice. It died after six months.
The second died right after I got it.
The last one a month ago a week after the warrenty expired.
No more for me.

Looks really interesting.
I hope they use some of these things in MS3 that hopefully arrives next fall.

God I wish Microsoft would wize up one day.
All they do is buy. How about doing something new instead of just buying something that is comming anyway. The only ones that loose is the gamers.

6011d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

The math is flawed.

First of we need to take at least half away because of chipped consoles.

Then we have to take another half away because those consoles were not owned by active gamers anymore or consoles that wasn't working anymore.

120 million consoles means 30 million active gamers tops.

@edhe

Please stop talking NDP. We are talking worldwide numbers. Not North America alone. World wire the 360 is selling about 30k more than the PS3 per month right now. The 4th quarter is always were it happens. Meaning the sales here are roughly 3 times as great.

Lets do an example.
The PS3 double in sales because of price-cut/slim effect. This is by no means a high estimate. This would result in the PS3 selling 6 times as many consoles in the 4th quarter comp...

@Soda Popinsky

The xbox has an attack rate at 8.1
The PS3 has an attack rate at 7.9

The attach rate argument is not valid anymore.
If the PS3 isn't worth developing for this year it means the the Xbox wasn't worth developing for last year. A year ago the Xbox has an install base the same size as the PS3 does now and their attach rates are virtually the same. Unless MS is paying Valve for keeping their games Xbox/PC exclusives, Valve are just very poor bu...
