Sales of X360's have slowed alot in the Uk.And there are trade-in's galore as gamer's trade up to PS3.
Even if Euro PS3 is 70% backward compatible with PS1/PS2 that's still alot more support than Microsoft can Manage.
It's too cut costs, as Sony expects to break even by the end of 2007 and start to make a profit in 2008.
Buy a PS3.

TheMart - Both the X360 & Wii had prices in the Uk that are higher than that of US or Japan.Sony is not the only one doing this.

For starters MGS4 uses a full 50Gb Blu-ray disc.Imagine how make DVD9's it would come on.
Also when it says that it's not compatible with Bluray.Why not? Every Blu-ray player on the market including PS3 is backward compatible with DVD so I can't see this not been the case with 3x DVD.If it follows the same specs as DVD then they is no reason why it should'nt be.

Game Cube could only do 480p,Yet PS2 & Xbox could do 720p,1080i.Wii hardware has no real differences to GC other than CPU runs faster and the Wiimote.I doubt that Wii can do any Hi Def graphics other than 480p.

This is a bad idea as nothing is standard on X360.Devs have to use the lowst spcs to remain compatible with each SKU.
Both Blu-ray & HD DVD can use the same codec's eg Mpeg 2/4,VC-1.Blu-ray has the better movie studio support.That's why it's winning.Couple that to the fact that PS3 having Blu-ray is pushing Blu-ray movie ownership throu the roof.
BTW neither Blu-ray or HD DVD are region free(not even PS3 is for movies,games only).
Even 70% backward compatiblity on PS3 would be better than X360.
