Blu-ray is already winning big, the PS3 has made sure of that. HD DVD will never match Blu-ray in terms of sales. PS3 is already on around 6 million sales, with a huge holiday season too come. HD DVD needs help.

Future Sony PS3 Firmware to support Blu-ray Profile 1.1
http://www.i4u.com/article1...
Sony is doing a great job of updating the firmware. PS3 features have come along way since launch.
Ever thought that retailers are just restocking after selling out.
Sony's not going back on deal's, they simply outsource out too do with Cell. Just mean's that Sony don't have to plough loads of dosh into the R & D. IBM & Toshiba will carry on R & D on Cell as long as there are customers for it. Sony is a huge customer for cell.
Surely all the reports against the article should be enuff to not approve such crap. If not what's the point of a reports system anyhow.
And old crap as well. Nuff said.
But seen as not many 1st generation Blu-ray players have been sold this is not a big deal. All Blu-ray players sold after Oct 2007 can handle the upgrade by firmware. The PS3 has the majority share of the Blu-ray hardware market anyhow and that has the specs to handle all Blu-ray profiles.

51Gb HD DVD media won't play on exsisting HD DVD hardware. Even if it was compatible Blu-ray will always be one step ahead of HD DVD in terms of storage. Blu-ray does 50Gb using Dual Layer, where as HD DVD can only manage 51Gb using triple Layer(only 1Gb more). Also Blu-ray can use 100Gb(4 layer) & 200Gb(8 Layer) media also with just a firmware upgrade. HD DVD will always be behind Blu-ray. :)
The PS3 is the best Blu-ray player on the market to date period.
...
There are already Blu-ray/DVD dual disc's in the pipeline, So BDA must have permission too do it. Making a writeable version would be just as easy.

Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (JVC) is pleased to announce that it has developed the world’s first Blu-ray/ DVD combo ROM disc technology, which enables storage of video content in both high definition and standard definition. The new ROM disc, which has a total storage capacity of 33.5GB, uses a triple layer structure...
When other equal good games have yet to release like: Uncharted, Super Mario Galaxy, Call of Duty 4. :)
How many PS3's will be sold world wide this holiday. 2-3 million my guess. HD DVD won't get close to 9 million sales by years end. HD DVD is a lost cause.
