I think the emergence of shooter, multiplayer online game, and motion control totally killed JRPG last gen. You would even see JRPG trying to have their characters using gun during last gen (PS3 Xbox360 era).
So by trying to "follow what is selling" JRPG has lost their originality somewhere along the way. And the PS3 not being the dominant platform last gen, pretty much got most developers to do shooter that will most likely sell well on Xbox 360.

Xbox One sold 50,000 units in Japan for a whole year. Right now they are averaging around 200 units a week. With Metal Gear Solid released in September they had a boost of 1000%. What does a boost of 1000% means for Xbox One in a week in Japan? Just 2000 units for that week.

This is so not true. The reason Vita is really surffering is the highly release price. $300 for a handheld is too much for the casual. Same reason the 3DS is so behind the sales made by other Nintendo handheld.

But the problem is that "the shooter box" reputation is far from being lifted in people mind, and that is because if a game is not a shooter or Forza, the game just don't sell on Xbox console, especially new IP that are not shooters.
