You guys do realize that these screens are actually mag scans from a German PC magazine. The operative word being PC, there is absolutely no way a 360 would be capable of rendering textures at those resolutions, not to mention the anti-aliasing. N4G has linked to PS3 scans from a PS3 magazine and they look like total sh*t compared to this, and I anticipate the 360 version will likely look identical. Cevat Yerli has even said that the Cryengine 3 will run with about the same fidelity as Crysis...

What the hell kind of game were you playing because the Crysis I played was one of the most realistically interactive FPS's I've ever played. You shoot a tree and it splinters, shoot it enough and it falls down. You can pick up a turtle and throw it. You can pick a man up by his neck and throw him through a wall and the building will collapse on him, something you cannot do in any other game ever made. Crysis has almost no clipping, you walk into foliage and it brushes up against your body, a...

needless to say they looked really bad compared to this. Crysis is still the best looking game out there, and this looks like its about the same but in another environment, which is really cool. But these are scans so I can't really tell.

The only difference is that the PC version has more AA, and post processing which means brighter colors. The reason they look so similar is that it is using the UNREAL 3 ENGINE PEOPLE!!! An old engine that reached its limit (the limit being the ability of the 360 to run the engine) with GoW2. If you look at games like Batman AA, Mirrors Edge, and Bioshock they look almost identical on the PC as well, except for the DX10 water effects in Bioshock, and the extremely high end PhysX support for M...

Those screenshots look like sh*t

The only difference I can see in these low rez screen shots is that the 360 version has a lower level of or perhaps no AA. Also I played both versions of the original, and honestly the controls on the 360 were so bad I would almost go so far as to say that they were broken (lol @ radial menus). The PC version was MUCH improved, biotics and issueing orders to your teammates was much more intuative, and the cover system and combat didn't quite feel as hectic. Bioware's games have always enjoyed...

that although the game does not follow the events of "Fall of Reach", it doesn't rewrite over them, and instead follows the Spartan IIIs through a parallel story. What's even cooler is that this article hints that there will be nods to the events of "The Fall of Reach" which is interesting because up until this point I thought that the Bungie didn't officially acknowledge the books as official canon.

It doesn't matter though because 75 percent of Halo fans proba...

I would never say such nonsense. It's hard to compare the graphical power of the PS3 to a PC since the PC is entirely modular, and the PS3 has a very different architecture from any normal computer (9 cores anyone?). But roughly the PS3 is about as capable as a mid to high end PC. While the 360 is directly comparable to PC hardware from 2 generations past, meaning a mid to low end PC. The specific architecture of the PS3 means that games like KZ2, MGS4, and Uncharted 2 would most likely bring...

EA used to be the demon publisher, with a new ghetto ass Need For Speed game coming out every year. Now they're actually taking tons of chances with a load of new IPs. Games like Crysis, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Mirrors Edge, Dragon Age Origins, Brutal Legend are all completely fresh, and other than the Bioware games they were all huge financial disasters.

Its a shame, because now Activision is doing what EA used to do, milk franchises until there are no more ideas left, and gi...

On God's green earth would Microsoft put Elevator Action the XBL arcade when you can download MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) and the Elevator Action ROM in about 3 seconds (no joke) to your PC or (god forbid) your Mac for free. In fact with MAME you can play any arcade game you want for free, and it literally takes seconds. I used to do it back in 96 on my Windows 95 machine and even then with a 56k modem and a Pentium it took a matter of minutes to get a ROM downloaded an running.

When Call of Duty came out it brought a singular new thing to the table, a super fast paced and intense single player. The multiplayer was simply Quake 3 with WWII guns.

However, the game was decidedly old school, even for its time. It came out during a period when linear campaigns and scripted sequences were frowned upon due to the games like BF1942 and GTAIII. But when it came down to it, Call of Duty was a success not for its innovations but for the sheer quality of the game...

Remove all of the games on that list except for MW2 and Halo 3 ODST and you've got yourself an article that actually makes sense.

And that's the fact that reading data from an HDD is much more efficient and faster than reading from an optical disk. 60 gigs is peanuts and 500 gigs is not very much considering that you can stick any 2.5" HDD you want into a PS3. Being a PC Gamer myself I don't really understand the aversion people have towards installs. You do it once and then you don't even have to whip out a disk with which to clutter your gaming space, you just click a button and you're playing TF2 or whatever. Ho...

The point I was making was in the graphics technology realm. I'm not trying to say that the PS3 has a highr quality catalogue of games than the 360 and certainly not the PC. I'm just saying that in terms of consoles the PS3's modular HDD and install capabilities gives more leeway for devs who desire a more efficient way to render their games.

Id has voiced its concerns over how they will get Rage to run on the 360 and how good it will look, since they still have not figured out...

he mentioned that he quit PC gaming for an Xbox.

Game installs on consoles generally allow for uncompressed textures which reduce load times. Depending on the developer they can choose to make the install mandatory for certain games so they can code their engine on the guarantee that CPU cycles wont be wasted uncompressing assets. This was always a huge advantage for the PC and one of the reasons why the games generally look better.

Games like MGS4 were designed ...

But this is still a total fail list, Halo: Reach? WTF is that crap? And no mention of GoW 3 or Metro 2033. The only games that deserve to be on this list are Crysis 2, GT5, Heavy Rain, and Rage, and even Crysis 2 is Crysis on medium settings.

This article is reidiculous saying a game that hasn't come out looks better than one that already has? Nice concept art to in game footage comparison, what total BS. But lets bet pragmatic and realistic here, others have said it. UC2 and GoW3 belong to different genres and thus require different technical assets. Although 3PS games dont typically require more interaction and detail in the environment than your physics driven FPS, but UC2 is quite and achievement and brings many technically ad...

Great article. This is really something that can only be articulated in a longer form like this article, and the writer does this very well here.

People are always calling PC gamers "elitists" because they constantly gripe and wish that they could see more AAA games with more complex game mechanics that could only work on the more versatile PC control schemes (Joystick, Mouse + keyboard). Games like Mechwarrior, X-Wing, and X Com could only work on the PC. I'm all fo...
