Stats showing people downloading a game and trying it are one thing, the real question is how many played it for a decent spell or completed it.
Personally, I am not sure that 3 million subscribers downloading a free game is the equivalent of achieving 3 million sales. If they have a user base of 18 million, you could suggest that only 3 million users trying a free game actually isn't all that impressive, I dunno?
It would be interesting to see the numbers for how many people completed the game if we were to try and assess engagement I think.
My own experience with games on subscription is that I am more likely to try a game and not stick with it, although I did complete HiFi Rush.
None of this is a reflection on the game, I absolutely loved it, I am simply suggesting that these stats are not that informative compared with similar stats reflecting sales.
Hopefully MS take note that games without season passes and micro-transactions are popular and will attract an audience.
I always did like Tango so I hope they continue to succeed. As much as I enjoyed HiFi Rush, I'd love another Evil Within igame nstead personally, I enjoyed the first game and the second game was fantastic.
It didn't sell well at all from what I recall and reviews were fairly middling.
I always felt it was really underrated back on PS3, I am a bit bummed out about the remake as I could see the value rising quite steadily for a mint copy of the PS3 game.
Still, it'll be cool to enjoy a remake although I do worry that the tone and humour might be affected given the shift in cultural/social values over the last 10+ years.
This is why no-one who cares about the health of the gaming industry should be cheering for consolidation, whether its Embracer, MS or anyone else. A publisher/platform holder picking up the occasional studio is one thing, but it will always be a risk when so much of the industry falls under the umbrella of one larger parent company.
I've never played an Armored Core game and I couldn't be more excited based on what I have seen of this latest title. I can't help but feel that this is nothing more than clickbait, whilst I think Forespoken was treated a little harshly, it seems quite clear the author picked this title to stoke controversy.
I guess I am in the minority of folks who really enjoyed the last 3 Assassins Creed titles. I am not opposed to this new game being more akin to the original titles in respect of scope as I always enjoyed those games too, but I do find myself frustrated by 'journalists' trying to tell gamers what they did and didn't like.
Each of the modern AC titles sold more than the last so obviously, most people really enjoyed their time with the titles if they went on to ...
It's pretty good, like a solid 7/10 in my opinion. I did find I had to push through towards the end but overall I had a good time with it (I do really enjoy Rick & Morty, so enjoyed the humour in this game too).
In my view, this is the problem with games going to gamepass, it completely devalues your game. All of the zeitgeist has gone, people have moved on and then, on top of that, you expect PlayStation fans to pay 60-70 quid for what is now an old title that was...
Quite how the Infamous series fall into the category of 'obscure games' is beyond me.
Personally, I would be happy with a re-release with even the most basic of improvements such as higher resolution & framerate, absolutely loved this series (including Second Son).
For those not living here in the UK, I would point out that NOBODY buys their physical games from Tesco who are a grocery store. I don't know anyone who uses Gamestop either for that matter as both of these retailers generally charge full RRP on new games.
Anyone who buys physical games in the UK generally use one of a handful of online game retailers such as Shopto, Games Specialist or Game365. This is because I can usually pick up a 70 quid game for between 55-60 qu...
Better timing than mine then chief. I believed the hype and bought my Series X almost two years ago which came with two years of GP Ultimate. In that time I played Horizon 5 and HiFi Rush but otherwise, high quality 1st party stuff has been non existent and I've instead replayed older games such as the Gears of War titles etc.
I am now in a spot where my subscription ends in September and I must decide whether to renew or not. I simply cannot justify subscribing for ...
I recall being really shocked at how toxic gamers were when I got my 360, especially on COD and Gears.
I think my most positive experience on console was on a SOCOM game on PS3 where the chat was alway really friendly. I would generally have a great time on Counterstrike and Battlefield 1942 back in the day too, there were often arseholes, but mostly you could find reliable servers and have a fun time.
I think the level of toxicity usually correlates to ...
Something of a nothing story, however, I imagine there are some people here downplaying this move who made a big deal out of stories when folk moved on from Sony owned studios.
That's seems like a decent track record to have on your C.V.
@tacoboto
You cannot compare previous generations, it's completely disingenuous. The video game industry has expanded exponentially even since the Gamecube and PS1 days.
The sales potential in modern gaming is multiples of what it was 20 -30 years ago. The fact is, those sales for Xbox, who are considered a major player, are really poor and have been in a downward spiral since its 360 heyday.
Can't wait to see the mental gymnastics applied by Obscure in his attempts to justify this own goal of a statement.
Looks like you have great taste in games squire, love me some classic Mario.
I just replayed a NES game from my childhood, Snake Rattle & Roll, a real blast from the past!
How? MS chose to be cheap and stick with a dying format whilst Sony continued to push boundaries by using cutting edge technology for the time.
@Dom
Interesting you felt the need to pick a PS exclusive to illustrate the point that the percentage of gamers completing games is low. This is true of every game ever released.
The point is though, a sale is a sale, it doesn't matter how much a consumer sticks with it. Compare this to subscription where the entire purpose of a game is to drive engagement, to keep a consumer actively using the service.
