I love the fact that there is no new Raid. This game screams for a good Horde mode, and if done the right way, and its got some interesting mechanics with in, then PoE (Prison of Elders) should provide a lot more varied content, than another half-a**ed raid like Crota's end.
Yes I think that the current architecture that the Xone and the PS4 are using will remain the template for future generations.
However, I will not be willing to pay $400 USD every two years for slightly better graphics, even if its 100% backwards compatible.
Just like 99% of the public that buys smartphones don't pay north of $700 USD every year to get a slightly better phone.
Most people upgrade their smartphone every 2 years because the...
@edqe:
What? So your telling a game like Bloodborne is not a complex, deep and satisfying experience?
Guess you thought the souls series were a whole bunch hand holding games by the developer.
What about a game like Dragon Age Inquisition? Nah, you're right too shallow.
Maybe you meant games like TLoU, with a rich, well acted narrative, engrossing gameplay, and unforgiving difficulty when played in the correct setting? ...
Ah, the "progressive" media starting to feel the sting of people not caring about what you have to say.
Polygon has always seemed, to me, that they were basically the most morally bankrupt bunch, and in the gaming journalist industry, where seems all are morally bankrupt, that's saying something.
Time to hit up Microsoft for money again so you can cover the likely fines that will be levied on you, while maintaining your "journalistic integr...
I would agree with that assessment almost in its entirety, but console gamers are not the only ones that seem to want those things.
There are games like that on both sides, there are complex, deep RPG games on both sides as well.
consoles don't get much on the way of RTS games but I never enjoyed those so it doesn't bother me.
I would say that this is more symptomatic of newer generations of gamers coming up on the ranks, the older th...
I'm not sure if that rings true though. Consoles usually have about a 5 to 7 year life cycle. In that same time frame a PC gamer could potentially have upgraded twice, at least once for sure.
Lets do some math.
PS4+7 years of PSN+an average of lets say 4 new games a year(I think that's fair since your getting 24 free games a year with PSN+)= That is a cost $2430 USD, which includes the console, 7 years of PSN+, 4 new games a year for 7 years plus th...
Another thing, even Valve is trying to get into the console space. Yes its a modular console, yes it will have different variations and it will be upgradable by the end user, but its a console none the less.
We will how successful they are with it, I still struggle to figure out who is this thing for? And history is not on their side either. We shall see I guess.
Oh God, not one of this articles again. Its always hey PC gaming is dying or Consoles are dying, its either or, I am getting sick of this crap.
Take it from a gamer that's been doing it for 30 years, most of those spend only on the PC, actually like 70% of my gaming life has been spent on the PC, and if you are trying to get into PC gaming on a budget rig, not only are you doing it wrong, but you will have an incredibly bad time.
PC gaming, to me anyway,...
Hardware revisions for consoles in the middle of a generation are kind of pointless and seriously lack in profitability. For console manufactures it would be adding about 50% more manufacturing costs all over again and for what? Maybe a medium size bump in graphics? Or processing power?
Not worth it. On top of this is the fact that the size of the consumer base that would support this is likely a fraction of what the total console consumer base is.
The bi...
Really? So where is teh evidence that their traditional ad campaings worked? Shouldn't Nintendo be trying to recoup the tens of millions they spent on the ads on TV, and online and have been completely ineffective?
Wouldn't that be a much more fruitful and gainful thing to do?
Research bro, do some.
Wonderfulmonkeyman:
That's not how advertising works. Advertising works by creating exposure to a product, and presenting to the population. This creates mindshare and hype, which creates desire for said product.
This is marketing 101, and that is literally what youtubers do.
If you think that there is data out there that shows a direct link between ads and sales, you are sadly mistaken. Marketing is all about exposure.
...
wonderfulmonkeyman:
Where is the hard data that proves that traditional advertising directly affects sales?
There really is none now is there. The thought process for advertising in terms of marketing and business, is that advertising creates exposure.
Exposure creates mindshare, it helps inform people of the product, of its availability and of course, it helps create and drive desire for the product.
Traditional adv...
I am still confused as to whom are these "consoles" targeted. I know Valve have stated that they are not trying to compete with consoles, but let us be honest with ourselves, that is exactly with whom they'll be in competition.
I have been gaming for almost 28 years of my life, and through most of it I have been a loud and proud supporter of the PC. Specially cince the emergance of Steam. Actually before Steam, I had found myself starting to favor consoles,...
A competetive nad above all, competant Microsoft is essential in the industry at this time. Taking Phil and putting him in charge of the Xbox division was a brilliant move, I think even the most blind fanboy should be able to see that.
Microsoft might not, and frankly it probably won't, come out on top this generation. Heck, they probably will be a distant second to Sony's unstoppable machine. But thi sdoes not mean that they will fail, they can be extremely succ...
Don't be that guy!! Suros is the only gun, exotic or legendary, that I want anymore. The game simply refuses to give it to me for some odd reason.
It was the same with the Fatebringer and the Vex Mythoclast. 50+ succesful hard VoG raids before finally one day RNG decided to stop trolling me and gave me Fatebringer, but after Atheon what did I get? Another Timebreaker and aspect of glass, and like the 30th Atheon's Epilogue. I switch characters, since the RNG go...
I would like to start this comment by stating that I have loved Nintendo games and consoles for well over 20 years now. And it is precisely because of that love, the memories, nostalgia and the (pardon me for saying this) "feels" that I have been very hard on Nintendo for the last 2.5 generations.
Let's get one thing straight first, Nintendo has never been a company that makes powerful hardware, or is at least in the cutting edge when it comes to hardware. T...
Microtransations are fine for f2p games, in this instance however? Heck no. I understand that the industry has become so saturated with bad products, and the budgets of this games have balloned to incredible sizes, that publishers have resorted to being creative with pricing models and the such.
But, certain models should not mix with one another. Full priced games and Microtransactions are two models that should not mix at all.
Now, if you want to mak...
Wow, so delusional! You're no different them those that say that the only reason the 360 reached the numbers it did, was due to the RRoD, forcing people to buy multiple consoles.
Xbots, Sonyponies, PCmasterrace, (i don't know the put down for Nintendo fans) guys are all the same, desperate beings trying to validate you resistance and choices with public acceptance.
So sad!
While I can agree with you on certain points, I must disagree with you here. You point out two games that while they do give you the option of having a male or female protagonist, have been critized for not differentiating enough between the two protagonist to make it a significant difference.
Mass Effect in particular received some pretty absurd criticism for having the ability to take both a male and female protagonist to teh omega station and sit down to witness a table...
So what is the right course of action? Over analyzing everything and turning everything we say into a "micro-aggression"?
Is the Orwellian nightmare the right course of action? Do we monitor people's thoughts, activities, trends, speech and so on?
Do we develop ways of programming people so they fit into a particular mold? And if we do, who gets to decide what that mold is? Who gets to decide what is wrong or right?
Who watc...
