I would have thought it was a standard feature in a modern racing game? Oh well, rain makes the game very difficult and although nothing except track/off-road racing can take place I'll still buy it for my nephew

Nope, you break up with your party on PS3 when you join a game, and VoiP is largely broken.
If there is a difference, it is minimal. Sure it's not up to scratch of the PC but it's still great ;)

"Thousands of items purchasable in-game" -- I hope that's in-game currency, not GOW-style pay real money to unlock content already on the disc.
