You'll see the Mass Effect trilogy on any best games list. Ground breaking in every way and genre creating and genre defining. It will make top 10 lists and be in history forever. RPG's changed because of these games along with various other Bioware games.
FF games not so much history making. Iconic in many ways but not defining.

BF3 was the real big step. Ask any hardcore battlefield players and private server renters (myself included), BF3 was the big one. They tried pushing it a lot more with BF4 knowing how successful BF3 was but kind of broke the netcode in 4. By the time they fixed 4, they lost their grip on the series and then World War did not get the same kind of busy player base that BF3 had.
I've played all the BF games and the three best in the series were 2,3 and BC 2.
