Sony paid for an exclusive marketing deal over a freaking engine demo. That's just sad. They clearly don't have anything good to show ready yet and needed to piggyback on an announcement to create buzz for themselves.
It's no conspiracy. They had a marketing deal, plain and simple.
Sony doesn't have anything to show yet and Epic were about to reveal their engine and so Sony paid them some money to not mention Xbox for 3 days and demo their engine on their console. It's that simple.

It was running on 30fps with no raytracing. Exactly what you'd expect from an underpowered next gen console. Looking forward to seeing what it'll look like when the console isn't having to take TF naps every 5 minutes.
It'll catch on eventually. Not as quickly as some here might hope but it won't die like others wish either.
We just need more powerful headsets have them be untethered and have intuitive controllers. All at a consumer friendly price. That's not going to happen overnight.
