Yep that has me worried too, I thought they had listened when the NX was first announced, but it now appears they didn't, hope I'm wrong though.
It's been proven not true by the person who highlighted the issue, there was an issue with his ga,e/server info he had to re-download game and it was all ok.

As Alexious says, it will be the software version, that is CPU dependent rather than GPU so it isn't running on the card.

But WoW isn't the only online game, not sure why you are bringing that in, it's a completely optional thing. Paying for console online play is not.
