I think it's safe to assume that Ultimate has surpassed Smash Wii U's sales of 5.35 million in a week if this is what the first 2 days look like.

Superior competitor? Not in comparison to the Wii, DS and 3DS. Of the 4 consoles he was involved with, 3 of them outsold their Sony counterparts and since he probably had a hand in overlooking the Switch, well it's currently tracking above what the PS4 did in the same timeframe.
