Pretty sure there was the exact same rumour floating when Wii-U came out
Judging by DOOM, titanfall 2, battlefield 1, gears 4, watchdogs 2, FF15 and even last guardian (looking at its metascore), 2016 actually had a lot of surprises for me.
Hell, I even enjoyed IW's campaign thoroughly
Because order like knack was scored poorly and people want a sequel to it like they're getting now with Knack 2
I felt Dishonored 2 would even be a nominee for game of the year at least. It's a great game. I really love both entries. Glad it won something.

Sly cooper 4, uncharted golden abyss, batman arkham origins, killzone mercenaries, gears 4, and a few assassins creeds are made by different developers. They all feel quite similar to me.
Also a lot of those guys at Liverpool who shut down actually got absorbed into Sony and made the excellent Playroom VR. That same team can do it.

Honestly this year was probably and surprisingly one of the best year for first person shooters. Since the ps4 and xbox one launch, maybe wolfenstein: the new order was the only great fps campaign until this year.
DOOM was great, Battlefield 1 was great, Titanfall 2 was great and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was great.
Moreover, the remasters this year are remasters of some of the best shooters of all time; Bioshock and Call of Duty 4

And i agree its a cool feature. The picture actually is pretty good for classics like NES and ps1 because they run natively below the psvr headset resolution :P
