Personally, I feel it sets the expectation. People were a bit harsh last year with Sony bc it didnt have "new reveals". I feel given, the oustanding last 3 years of showings, Sony just doesn't have any first party devs in the pipeline, which is fine because theyve given us a lot and its likely guerrilla, santa monica are working on ps5 at this point.

I think its possibly one of the only "open" games that doesn't break immersion with some side quest which requires you to gather potatoes when the world is at stake.
In that case, it's too early to draw a comparison. we wont know how influential god of war will be for a while.
I think the whole one-shot camera, the AI stuff with artreus and just the whole way they moulded all these really well polished things together that makes something like a well designed video game with deep mechanics and variety while also feeling like an epic and emotional cinematic blockbuster at the same time.

When you factor how the camera changed the gameplay and the way the story is told and how much a second character is used in the gameplay and how exploration is a new factor, with how the axe behaves compared to the blades etc
I think its as much as a change as RE4 was.
I think it just comes down to Sony revealing dates when they know they are going to land them. We really only got God of War's date 3 months out from release. Detroit is another one. I think this will be a continuing trend. If Spiderman indeed comes out at the end of the year, we wont' know about the release date until post E3.

It's honestly difficult to tell how this game will score purely because it'll be mostly judged on how well the overall story and themes and pacing is etc. That can go either way at this point.
