They will both do well. Both will be in 3D and both have an equal fanbase. Due to a multiplatform release, Crysis 2 might edge out KZ3. I could be wrong.
Technically, Wolfenstein 3D was the first proper FPS. Doom came out a year later, popularizing the genre. Like gillri said.
Gillri has the games right though, that list has had a tremendous impact including of course COD4 later on.
I agree. I thought this article would take the comments to an optimistic place. You know, like gamers looking forward to a new engine by Bungie along with their next game. Guesses as to how it will look and play. Boy was I wrong.

Why can't it come out at the same time? I had no problem playing Halo 3, COD4, Mass Effect, Forza 2 and Orange Box all at the same time.
Seems like they're ducking gears 3 as well, pushed it back all the way to Nov. 2011.
They need to fix a few things before I'll even consider it.
They're basically looking for someone who helped develop Uncharted 2, or Gears of War, or Crysis. Too many requirements, damn.

50 ranked players don't get anything special but they either carry their team most times or are really really good. Level 50 in Halo 3 reach is nothing to sneeze at.
I will never doubt Bungie with their games. Bluray next gen is almost a necessity, though. If it's going to be the next format for discs it should be adapted by devs and should be in every console for the next generation. My 2 cents...
I hate to sound like a hater but Halo 3 surpasses Killzone 2 in all aspects, and yes technically too. Try making your own game modes, video clips, whole campaign movies and screenshots, all this from any angle(third-person, stationary or first person view)and sending them all in a message to all friends. Nuff said. Graphically, Killzone 2 might have the edge in many a fanboy's opinion but fact is Killzone does no splitscreen, co-op or even multiplayer in the same screen so that evens out....
Achievements/trophies challenge you in ways the game itself wouldn't have. It's an incentive to replay a game, you otherwise wouldn't have. I see them as a good thing. Unless you played Avatar:The Burning Earth, then you're a whore!
