Why anyone would go online and make rape jokes to a stranger I have no idea. Well, I guess I do. Telecommunications contracts come with a set of balls these days. People get bold when they aren't face to face, can remain anonymous, etc.. I doubt it. People say this as if a lot of resources and money haven't gone into the Kinect 2.0 already. What are they going to do, drop it? Okay, now how do you recoup your losses on R&D? What is the stand alone Kinect going to sell for? $200? That's probably what you'd be looking at if they dropped the price of the X1 to below that of the PS4. The other option is that they would do a smaller price drop on the X1 to subsidize selling standalone Kinects for a lower price.
Microsoft did a pretty good job making themselves look like the bad guys. First they insisted on these features and policies, then they 180'd on them once the pre-order numbers came in. Of course there is going to be some ribbing of MS about that. I haven't seen any jokes about MS that are as tasteless as your rape joke though.

I almost hate to say this, but I don't think it would be smart business for MS to do an Xbone SKU without the Kinect. There's only so much you can scrap without just redoing the whole thing. Sure they can sell a cheaper Xbone without Kinect, but remember sacrifices have already been made for the Kinect, whether it's in the box or not. That's the logical thing to do. It's not only a good move in terms of privacy, but also maintenance. One of the things that bothered me about Xbone was it unnecessarily has/had parts which could fail and cause the whole system to be inoperable. That would be the Kinect and the unremovable hard drive.
