the function of "Start" button changed more than 2 decades ago
you press it you go to the options menu but for what ever reasons they kept the name
and I don't really care about share but the touchpad works very well as a replacement for the old select button

You just need to go the the main mission instead of finding information about it from one of the pointless side activities.
