Why no Borderlands 1? I've never played Borderlands and including 1 would be an instant purchase for me. Might still get it if I find a gap tho, Do I need to play 1 before these? and would you play 2 or pre sequel first?

It helps with longevity for people that are that way inclined, but personally, once I complete the singleplayer campaign 100% I have little desire to keep playing it. Time to move on to the next game.
If there were more of them, less people would buy full price games, instead waiting for the weekly flash sale. This would hurt the gaming industry by lowering what customers are willing to pay for games, and how much developers are getting payed.
Hence the disagrees.
If your shopping from one retailer sure. But a quick search online will result in much cheaper physical copies of games, while the digital download price never sways from RRP, unless theres a PS+/Gold sale.

I would've bet my house that they'd make a remastered collection. It makes a remaster worthy of a second purchase.

I think the surprise element is very minimal, as a large majority have been expecting this.
