You can't just deem the concerns of turn-based fans to be "baseless pessimism." XV still looks like shit, this Wait Mode is just a ray of hope in the overall fucked up picture of current Square.
Making the Wait Mode a fully turn-based experience is a good idea. However, as things stand, just making an Action game into a turn-based one won't work out well. The game is designed for action in mind, so the gameplay won't translate well unless Wait Mode is ...
WW > LttP.
That does sound concerning, but maybe we can choose to follow the story to get a classic Zelda experience. If it's optional then that is acceptable.
I think you mean a Wind Waker beater, and it probably won't beat either of them but will come in a solid third.

Yeah, the new voice is a dealbreaker for me. It ruined DmC and MGSV for me, too.
NEW voice of Kratos? No thanks. Series is dead to me.
&b4 someone says something along the lines of "you were never a true fan if one voice is all that matters to you." Don't bother.
I wish they never made V13 into a mainstream title, then they could cater to button mashers on the side without affecting true fans (turn-based fans). The series is devolving into a generic action series, the opposite of evolving lmfao.
The only reason the real time combat suffered is because Square's ARPGs have always paled in comparison to their turn-based efforts, even though their ARPG were generally pretty good as well. Turn-based is just where their greatest talen...
"Materia, summons, gear switching, in combat weapon switching, teleporting, extremely difficult timed parrying, a party coop system with your buddies...
Yep, mindlesshackandslash buddy, you hit it spot o- NO YOU DIDN'T."
Mash for Materia, mash for summons, switch gear to mash more, switch in combat to keep mashing, teleport to mash, parry and then mash, mash, mash, do the MONNNSTER MASH!!!

It almost seems like Square is listening to its true fans. Interesting.
Lost Odyssey was such a good game. Was that the last major AAA turn-based JRPG for home consoles? I mean ignoring stuff like Omega Quintet tier stuff (not that it is bad but just not in the same league).
"Seems like they're appealing to true fans" kinds of people."
FTFY.
"But why the hell wouldn't you buy a game like this over something trivial like that?"
It is not trivial. How would people have reacted if Uncharted 4 was turn-based? Sorry but you can't just make huge changes like that to the main series. Spinoffs are where you experiment and make changes, like Uncharted: Fight For Fortune.
...
Hopefully they do. If they can refine the mode to appease turn-based fans then the only thing we need to worry about is if FF7R will remain faithful to the rest of the source material, specifically the story. Also, the episodic issue is potentially concerning as well.
@ninsigma: "There's no reason why it can't be really and it would be best of both worlds for everyone.
As for source material, I think they're going to surprise us with ho...

This is definitely a step in the right direction. I feel like this is a direct response to criticism from turn-based fans, and I am glad we have not been silent on the issue. If anything we should all be louder now. Maybe the game will be changed enough to the point where it's turn-based with an "Active" mode, haha. I can dream.
I really do lol. I really thought we'd get something back during the 20th anniversary. My fault for getting my hopes up.
It's cool to hate CoD, that is all. It isn't perfect but it's decent. No reason to be thrashed like it is.
If that is true then that alleviates one of my concerns!
If online without gay ass Friend Codes is confirmed then this is day 1.
This, basically. It's still made with good intentions, I think. If anything it just tells me that at least someone in Square remembers us and threw us a crumb.
