4K is nice and all that.. but you're assuming that avarage joe smoe cares about 4K.. In some sense, games look more boring now than they did 10 years ago.
And what exclusive games are they tempting with that do not look like pale shadows of earlier games? In my case, there's Sea of Thieves, and that's it.

Bought a 3DS in 2016. The real problem isn't timing, but lack of killer apps. PSP handled this better, I think.

Many here I don't think understand that people bought PS1, PS2 and PS3 respectively to be future proof for upcoming CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays. Now Sony are trying to cash in on HDR instead of 4K, and I'm not sure it's going to pay off yet.
River City Ransom: Underground. The game just looks so jolly. What I love about the NES classic was how cute the characters were, while at the same time how precise the fighting mechanics were.
Now we're getting all that in addition to HD graphics and multiplayer. Can't wait to throw my money at this game.
@op: Nothing new about this - features get cut from games all the time. Even from AAA games. The more ambitious the project, the more often it happens. Sony Santa Monica were very open about this regarding God of War 3, for instance...
At the end of the day, you just have to buy at face value. Stop pre-ordering. Stop hyping yourselves into high heavens.

7, 8 & 9 - the Golden Triforce of Final Fantasy. X was good for what it was, and earlier games were masterful. But no other set of games were ever so different from one another, and yet so consistent in the quantity, quality AND presentation, as 7 through 9.
This will go on deaf ears, but; even a flawed, overpriced disappointment of a game would sell if they were sold for free.
And you can bet your ass their counting Xbox bundles and free copies from Origin as "sales".
