I see all games eventually going to psnow /game pass especially once 5g rolls out. Consoles will no longer need to be power houses, just dumb terminals. Could come in all different shapes and sizes. It makes the most financial sense.

For example, I can put little detail into a game so the hardware can achieve “4K”, however no developer does this out the gate because they have an artistic vision that needs to be hit first. It’s actually the opposite. They could do E3 again and have a lackluster showing of games that are still in development. Instead, they are shaking up the monotony which will cause Microsoft to become overconfident thinking they are turning the tide with their all powerful systems. Essentially Sony is making Microsoft play their hand so that they can gauge if their new system is on par with Microsoft’s new system.
Microsoft never learns. They tried this same thing with the original Xbox. Power doesn’t mean anything. ‘Plays best on’ doesn’t sell consoles. There is a culture with PlayStation. Something that is lacking with Xbox. This is why the loyalty rate is so high, and most games sell the best on ps4. The people believe in ps4, not so much Xbox.
You’re describing a problem with the tools, not the hardware. you can make next gen games on current hardware if you have a big enough budget/talent. However if the software development tools are robust enough to be useable by different levels of devs then we could all potentially achieve RDR2.
Microsoft’s business model is to acquire studios and close them. Not trolling, it’s the proven in their track record. They will continue to do this until the only games left are halo gears forza.
