I only have so many bubbles so I'll respond to things here.
@NYC gamer- Sony share holders would like Sony to make money on everything they sell. However, if shareholders feel that the Vita isn't making money, and its long term prospects are bleak, they would probably want Sony to simply cut off the product. Compared to Sony's other divisions and products its small potatoes.
In other words, Sony shareholders want the company to make money, whethe...
I fail to see your point. Yeah there are dozens of Mario games, but you don't seem to present any reason that that's a bad things.
So, it's a dozen different Mario games? Why is that a bad thing? If each Mario game offers something unique who cares? The only complaint that you seem to have is that "it's too much Mario". Please explain to me why a dozen Mario games is a bad thing aside from that being a lot of Mario.
As for new I...
Like I said, if you're willing to give the same criticism to every franchise that releases four games in a 5 year span or 5 in a nine year span(which is most franchises) and you're not going to buy games from those franchises again, then feel free to criticize Nintendo.
If however you support any of those franchises, either in comments or with your wallet, then you have no grounds on which to call Nintendo out for milking. At best, you can criticize Nintendo for perf...
If I didn't know any better, I'd assume you just read the title/comments, and looked at the picture. But hey, you make a great example of exactly what I'm talking about, so lets go for it...
Why the arbitrary cutoff date of 2006-2010? You could just as logically look at 2002 to 2011. If you did that, you'd have 5 Mario games in 9 years.
Are we really going to consider Mario Galaxy and NSMB as part of the same series? Do they feature the sa...
There have been 5 3D Mario games since the N64 came out.
Miiverse is like Near? The application that uses GPS to find other gamers in the area and in no way shape or form resembles a message board? You be smokin' da crack.
@ #1 If you really think that, then you haven't been following the games industry that much. If we conservatively estimate that the Wii U will only sell 3.5 million units by the time the other consoles launch, and another one million in the three months after they launch (which would be downright disastrous numbers for Nintendo), then that would be 4.5 million units. Do you think that Microsoft and Sony will both sell 4.5 million units in their first three months?
Well,...
Apparently, Wii Party U and Project X Zone have been silently cancelled. :(
Or, you know... this is fake.
I've learned long ago not to count on all the commenters on N4G having actually read the article. Basically people go "hey it says Wii U in the article, so I'll just post what I think about the Wii U in the comments". It's just the way it is.
On the bright side though, for every 10 or so people who don't read the article, or read skim the article, there will be one person who actually read it, which is alot better than what I'd be doing without...
I didn't make all this just to be different for the sake of being different. I truly believe it.
There is a BIG difference between the situation Nintendo was in now and with the Cube.
First off, you' mentioned they both had Mario, Smash, Zelda, etc. You fail to mention Wii Fit, Wii Sports, Wii Party, and so on. You may not think these are a big deal, but they are.
Furthermore, Nintendo's franchises have had a lot more exposure....
Take a look at the other comments here. Maybe you agree with me, and if so that's cool, but that's not the prevailing attitude.
As for once stock comes in, the Wii U will still be fine. The Wii U can appeal to markets outside the 16-34 male demos. The PS4 will struggle here. The Wii U has a larger potential market. We'll see if they can take advantage of that.
Oh god. Can't we just get hyped for a new game without debating which piece of plastic and chips we'll use to play it?
No it's not like that at all. It's more like buying a system with games you like, instead of buying a system with games you don't like. I prefer Mario Galaxy to Uncharted and Smash Bros to God of War, so it naturally makes more sense for me to buy a Wii U. I prefer local multiplayer to online multiplayer. I prefer platformers to shooters.
To me, the Wii U is a far better option than the PS4 will be. You can buy whichever system best meets your need.
Please keep in mind that the article is simply describing how the NPD group views and defines gamers. They define "core" gamers as people who play "core" games on a "core" system for more than 5 hours a week. I do not endorse or support this view, as should be clear in the article. I just thought it was interesting and worth posting about. That is all.
Please keep in mind that this is NOT my opinion on what a hardcore, core, or whatever gamer is. All I'm doing is reporting on what NPD defines core gamers as. The point of my example was to show that I disagree with that definition.
I'm just letting you know how NPD views gamers, so if you have any issues with that, you should probably let them know.
Edit to avoid using a bubble@Poprocks
Alright, cool. It's a little worrisome ...
You should probably lighten up man. I happen to be an absolutely huge Nintendo fan. I have posters of Kid Icarus Uprising and Skyward Sword on my wall. I have a Wii U, and I'm legitimately excited about its future. I've owned every Nintendo console to date including the virtual boy. A PS Troll? Certainly not. If you don't believe me, put my name (in the article) into google and see how much pro Nintendo stuff pops up.
I'm a huge Nintendo fan, and I antic...
Good work Nancy Drew.
Ugh. Seriously? It's a placeholder price. They make it overpriced so they don't have email everyone and say "hey, that thing you preordered... well we actually are going to need more money". This is soooo not news.
@Hellsvacancy
First off, I DO say that about the Wii U. This isn't a PS4 only problem, and the Wii U is used as an example in the article. The 720 isn't announced yet, but its a fairly safe assumption that this problem will hamper Microsoft as well.
Sony fans may be more excited about Killzone, but I think to the majority of gamers, Destiny is a bigger deal. Assassin's Creed is also a bigger franchise than Killzone, and COD is definitely a bigg...
I'm glad you're enjoying it. There is a difference between being a failure in the market, and being a failure to gamers. I loved the hell out of my Dreamcast despite it having a short and troubled life.
