yeah, that's what I'm scared of too. Square seems to be the new EA, at least in the acquisition department anyway.

I wouldn't think being too large is a concern for Sony's worldwide studios. All their studios are kept separate and maintain their own identities, unlike the EA version of absorbing them.
Buying them out would just be the equivalent of having a very iron-clad exclusivity contract...along with a bit more direction in what sort of games they would make.

They really need to buy Level 5 though. Japan is the one area that Sony has very little first party support and polyphony d...

In regards to any complaints about being limited in possibility of levels that you can make, head over to the playstation blog and have a look at the level a team of about 4 or 5 people from the Parsons design school made in just 24 hours.

The level they've made is based on shadow of the colossus, and it is definitely impressive. They captured some textures using the playstation eye and also used those that are already in the game.

haha thanks Kuest, this is one of the better (i.e. civil) discussions I have seen debating about an exclusive.

Just to put that very final nail in that coffin... :P

If Media Molecule keep releasing additions and add-on packs after a (hopefully) initial success, then that's the longetivity of the game dealt with. The only other reason that it could stop is the drying up of quality new levels being released. To be honest, I don't think that situation is all that likely...

I agree it will rely a lot on the hardcore crowd for level creation. But that doesn't mean there won't be a significant casual crowd out there that play other people's levels, customise their characters and make (fairly derivative) levels using the objects they've won from other people's levels.

You can't really claim that because a game is not a simple pick up and play it won't be big with the casual crowd. Look at the Sims. That's one of the biggest casual games around, and it'...

I think it will behave a lot like YouTube does. You will have some people creating some brilliant levels that everybody hears about, a fair amount of decent stuff and then a lot of rubbish.
Many more people will be viewing (=playing for LBP) than creating if this game sells well.

Obviously its not gonna have as large a community as YouTube, the barriers to entry are much higher - having internet access vs having a PS3 and buying the game. But it will be a smaller game equiv...

The cut scenes from Insomniac use the same in game graphics engine.

It's a post by an official developer on the official psforums. This guy has posted before in a developer capacity on those forums and elsewhere around the web.

I'm sure the kids could at least play the platforming part and their create portion would just be limited to customizing the appearance of their sackboys/sackgirls. That's more than enough of a game right there, with endless DLC.

Considering it is version 0.98, they've been considerably expanded the private betas recently with more invites to come and the director of home has posted on the ps.blog confirming a fall release...I'd say it's fairly likely to be true with or without a source to back it up.

Its most likely that sony are aiming for late October but can't be sure to get all the bugs fixed by that time, therefore aren't committing to a more precise date.

I agree, that website has always been pretty good. They seem to focus more on the industry with feature-type articles rather than just the latest recycled news that a lot of other gaming sites do.
Gamasutra is another site that is like this (it has their own version of this same article) - there's often some pretty interesting stuff to read there. It hardly shows up on n4g though.

It's unlikely that there will be any effect on gamers since this is an external cause that has affected most of the world market. When the overall market improves the companies that have lost value are likely to regain it as people regain confidence in the market.
If this fall in share value was not due to external factors like this and was actually related to people avoiding Sony shares in particular (or even the consumer electronics industry), then we might see some change in operatio...

The only time chrome uses less ram is with one tab open. Chrome uses a separate process for each tab which means more ram for each tab. The head-to-heads they have shown on various sites show firefox using significantly less ram with several tabs open.
Either way, they're both pretty limited amounts of ram, and a big improvement on IE

Well, I think it would be stupid if Sony didn't eventually have a full integrated multimedia service, given that they have such a big presence in the film and music business.
Having their own store will give them much more flexibility in controlling the service and working it in with their other multimedia features.

They've already released a video store to make use of that content, and in Europe they are releasing other features that help make use of the PS3 as a multimedi...

Unfortunately, not going to happen. Remember, Sony are in the music business as well. They'd be wanting to leverage the PS3 and make their own music service before putting a competitor's music store there.

Why exactly would they want to "haemorrhage the problem" of "bleeding users." A haemorrhage is just a massive bleed.

And about the relevance of this to Home....home actually has a focus and a common underlying theme of gaming and most its users will be gamers. It is much more likely to retain users over a longer period of time, although the uses of home may vary over time.

Maybe, they won't make money off selling PS3 hardware this gen. They are unlikely to sell as many as they did with PS2, and it appears profitability was much worse in the early stages of the PS3.

But that doesn't mean that they won't make a huge profit off the PS3 business as a whole i.e. licensing games on the system.

This guy seems to conveniently ignore the software part of the equation.

...and how would you know anything about the actual game to be able to compare it to the trailer??

I'm not exactly sure where everybody is getting that C+ score for Haze from. On their site it says D+ which equates to 33 on Metacritic. This Too Human review has shown up on Metacritic now (along with the GameInformer review) with a score of 45.

It was initially meant to be on both (and be a small game), but since it was received so well when first presented Sony decided to put their full backing behind the game, and put many more features in the game (which is most of the reason for being delayed) which led to it being much bigger and therefore blu-ray only. This news is quite old, so not quite sure why it's being reported again now.
