This seems unlikely - the Larrabee is not proven and is fairly similar in architecture to the Cell. It would kind of neutralise the benefit of having a dedicated graphics chip since the cell can take on a lot of the graphics anyway.
The recession is going to last a long time, even though the worst of it may be over soon. This year is probably the best time to drop the price- the system is profitable, there is now a solid game library and decent features on the console and the new motion controls (low entry cost is important to appeal to these consumers) are to be released soon.
They have gotten by with lower sales than the competition for now, but if they continue like this for several years, 3rd party supp...
Nowhere in that examiner article does it mention the 13mil target and that in their latest financial report Sony still think they will achieve this. I don't see how this makes it a duplicate...
I'm pretty sure there is a lot of stock sitting in warehouses and with retailers. The previous old models took a few months to clear out.
Without it being cheaper than the slim, the old 80gb models just won't sell.
With a $399 slim, they have demand so can justify that price at least initially.
My prediction is for a price drop of the PS3 slim about 3-6 months later, but maybe not to the same degree that the 80gb price is cut.
This forecast which they are adamant they will meet, along with the new 45nm cell are the two main indicators of a ps3 slim/price cut.
Hopefully we see something soon.
They don't really justify why they don't like this game...the review starts out fairly positive...but it basically comes down to the fact that they don't like arcade games where aiming for a higher score is a big part of the game.
Also they are completely unaware that the music was created by a local musician and is a 90 minute soundtrack created specifically for the game - they complain about the lack of licensed music and say that it could have been "farted out of a sequencer pr...
It's not only available in 320kbs mp3, but also a variety of other formats including FLAC for the same price. It definitely is a brilliant soundtrack and game
Wow, bubbles for a well-reasoned post. You do also have to consider that from this point onwards the 23 million consoles they've already sold are starting to become pure profit from game royalties.
It seems though, that they'd like to get away from the business model of short-medium term losses with exponentially long-term gains. Which is consistent with the whole 10 year lifecycle that they've really been stressing.
With the recession, poor yen exchange rate and in...
Yeah, the wifi is the only thing that isn't entwined in the gaming experience on the ps3. I'm pretty sure that with the pressure Sony is under to cut the price, that they would have removed wifi if it resulted in significant savings. The loss of wifi functionality is much greater than the small amount removing it would drop the price.
Lumbo makes some strong points about reducing chip sizes and integrating them - that is the most effective way to reduce the cost.
If...
Yeah, he didn't flat out deny a price cut was going to happen. Just stated some reasons for not doing it, rather than a boring 'no comment.'
If the PS3 slim comes out at the same price point and starts selling well for a while, it may be that the price cut still won't happen for a while, maybe even some time next year.
They have enough things up their sleeve (Slim and holiday season exclusives) that they can do to maintain momentum and only cut the price when absolut...
The problem with that is their multimedia functionality uses the same hardware as the games.
Sony would not be making any savings by removing those software features - they've already invested the development time into it, and would be just removing features to artificially make a price difference between SKUs.
The blu-ray player was the multimedia feature that resulted in the increased price, and that can't be easily removed since games also rely on it.
European blog have said late June, but not a specific date yet.
They are probably just ironing out bugs from the beta before the commit to a date and start marketing it.
It doesn't have very much weighting though....Should be higher, I think most of their reviews have been quite good and have articulated very well why they thought a game was good or bad.
This story is old - 2 February 2009.
The full interview related to Heavy Rain not running on the 360 is yet to be published.
Nevertheless, the more people that read this, the better. This game looks to be quite intruiging and definitely worth checking out.
I don't think that is right. I think the ps2 was sitting more in the range of 28-30 million after 2 years. The ps3 isn't that far off and if they can increase their momentum with these 2009 exclusives and a price cut they can keep within range of the ps2.
They are still doing better the 360 after 2 years - that doesn't mean they winning against the 360, but it does mean that the ps3 sales are still healthy and it is NOT in trouble.
Their main issue right now is reversing th...
I'm not sure if the engine for a racing game is very applicable to the requirements for many other action or shooter games. So that would explain why that hasn't been used in the past.
I fully agree. The big counter-argument against the graphics of Killzone 2 is how long it took to develop. However if they license the engine...it is worth much more than the time and money that was put into it. If they go down the route of bigger cell for the ps4, then the engine can just be given a bit of a revamp and they will get a lot of mileage out of it.
I really hope that they do license the engine, or even just parts of it.
The last game was Rugby 08 released in 07 in time for the rugby world cup....but there haven't really been any big changes over the last 4 or 5 years. Jonah Lomu Rugby (released in 1997) is still the most fun rugby game made. Hopefully EA can make a big improvement on graphics and make the gameplay a lot more fun and realistic - the breakdown is an area that never seems to work right in these games.
Hopefully they release a Rugby 2010 towards the end of this year with these impr...
If they justified that review score with legitimate reasons, consistent with their past reviews then that is fine and not biased.
Like most things with the PS3 this gen, it seems like Home will slowly but surely get better until in a few years it is completely unrecognisable to what was released initially
This was the case with the PSN content, which is now thriving in comparison to it's launch.
What these developers all agree on is the potential and future improvements that can be made. The underlying platform for home has been solidly set in place....it's now just the features and content tha...
