You are right, PCs didn't really start getting regular upgrades until the voodoo years, like 96 through 99.
I am enjoying this game,reminds me somewhat of Enclave back in the day.

Graphics will be so good that the only distinction between a good game and a bad game will be art direction.

I have fallen into the habit of just playing the core game and calling it a day when possible, like with Alan Wake. So I have tried to vote with my wallet, but it is difficult.
Its 1.5 years away, I think I can hold off on pre ordering.
I too felt that Nintendo had nothing ready. Any one of us could make up a montage video of 360 and Ps3 games and present it with an Ipad and viola! Its the future! I have to say that their E3 was by far the biggest let down.
