It's not the discs.
I brought mine home from the midnight launch and it did the cutscene freeze, and the gameplay freeze that makes it impossible to play the game at all.
The next morning I swapped discs hoping for a change. The exact same things happened with the new disc. Also, perhaps the biggest reason I can say beyond any doubt that it isn't the discs, it the fact that I have been able to play the game (probably put 45 hours on it) without any hitches, and get ...

I also picked up GTAIV on Launch night at like 12:20.

It's trying to tell you to stop playing such sh!tty games
I had to play my copy at my neighbor's house all day yesterday because I can't get it to run on mine.
We played from 1:30 to 10:30 yesterday with no hitches, AT ALL.
So I bring it back to my house and after a promising 2 minutes of play it freezes on me. ( I just wanted to cry or something) I WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME IN THE COMFORT OF my HOUSE, ON my PS3!
So as of now my neighbor has a free copy of the game.

It's definitely true. I wouldn't even be on here if it wasn't.
I got home at 12:30, installed it, watched the opening cutscene, and right as Niko goes to get in the car, the video glitches for just a sec, then freeze-frames while the audio continues.
I restarted the game, skipped the cutscene, drove to the "mansion", and it froze during the next cutscene, right after Roman crushes a roach.
Restart, re-install, freezes as I'm driving.
Gow2 was better than GoW 1 (in my opinion).
