I would be satisfied if it was one big surprise and it focused around the #3 (cough cough Half life cough).
"If I take an image from a game and put it on a frame, not one person would say it is not Art"
Actually, I would argue that. Visual asthetics =/= art. Art is about the conveyance of deeper meaning. MOST games don't have that. Games are primarily about entertainment value. Most graphic design, character development, level design are made with the intent of improving the entertainment.
I think part of the disagreement that comes out of this ...
Does anyone care who "won"?
Unfortunatley it seems a lot of people do...
Didn't mean to imply that art is purely visual. Art is about the conveyance of deeper meaning (well, ok, that's my piss poor definition of it). The addition of emotion or sensory appeal doesn't by necessity make it art. I'm not against video games being artistic and conveying deeper meaning and taking those types of chances, but my point was that if they aren't good games and aren't fun - no one is really going to care. They are a form of entertainment first, and a...
Blood clots kill way more people than bullets. We should make more video games about those.
I think it is one of those jobs that has the potential to ruin video games for you. You'll forever be looking at games through the 'tester mentality'.
Seriously, whats wrong with it being a game - why does it need to be art? How often do I sit and watch a movie and think of it as art?
I agree that some games are very artistic, just as some movies are - but for the most part it is about the entertainment value. Trying to convince everyone that games are art just makes you sound either (a) pretentious or (b) in denial that while it may have some artistic merit, it's still just a video game.
I mean - i...
So agree cornelius!
I think my problem with ME2s story is that while the first one had a good story arc, the second one seemed like filler. It seemed like a side story and that the main show of the trilogy happens in 1+3. I loved the game and it was a lot of fun, but it just didn't seem as grand as the first.
What I wouldn't give to play me some impossible mission!
I have to respectfully disagree with part of that. I honestly like the variety between the large open world RPGs like Fallout/Elder Scrolls, but I also like when developers take a different path with their RPG, like Mass Effect (and 2). I think that the variety in the RPG genre is a good thing. I don't think you need to have a game be open world for it to be an RPG, however I don't want all developers to get the idea that they can make a cheaper RPG by being linear because - as I s...
Relax buddy. If two people hitting disagree with you cause you to resort to name calling and xenophobia, the real world might not be the best place for you.
I say Yay with a couple of Caveats -
1. They need to be skipable. There were sections in the original ME on the hardest difficulty that I would die a few minutes after a cutscene and had to reload to right before it and watch it over - and over.. It got really tiresome.
2. As long as they are used carefully and sparingly. 15 minute cut scenes are just too long and are a result of bad story telling (generally). I have no problem with them, but if you can't tell the ...
Do they ever! I really really enjoyed the TLJ + Dreamfall and I keep waiting and waiting for some positive news on the next installment. Unfortunately all that Tornquist has said is that it is on 'indefinite hold' or 'temporary hold' until the Secret World is out. This is one of those games I'm tired of waiting - and it's barely even started as far as we know!
I have zero interest as well. 3D is just flat out unpleasant. Sure, it's kind of cool, for about 30 seconds, and then I can't keep my eyes open or seem to swallow enough advil to get rid of my headache.
On another note, for the first time today I saw some news on 3D TVs that I didn't immediately have an angry visceral reaction to - Panasonic made 3D tvs without glasses. I'm sure they would still be awful, but glasses are just one of the many many deal break...
Just say no to MMOs in general.
Why take responsibility for your actions when you can blame the government?
Just a misuse of the phrase 'de facto'. 'De facto' usually refers to market dominance. This is not meant to hate on the PS3 in any way, but to say that you have achieved market dominance when you have sold almost half of what the wii has and still aren't outselling it is ridiculous. It is definitely experiencing a resurgence, but has not achieved market dominance. Over sensationalized statement.
At the bare minimum an explanation of how it is calculated I think is warranted.
The first one was seriously lacking story, but to be honest, I didn't know that anyone played hack-and-slash ARPGs for the story. I thought we all just played for the loot!
On the bright side, Runic did say that they actually hired a story writer for the second to actually have some sort of cohesive narrative in the game - but don't expect too much from that department.
Personally, I think torchlight is a great game with a replay value. Heck, I pl...
Half Life 3 and Episode 3?
If you are willing to put some money to match those words I would take you up on that bet!
