Is 360 getting more JRPGs while Sony still gets the game. Sony will have to step up their game in the JRPG realm in order to compete, which is good. However, Microsoft should be doing that themselves instead of paying for timed exclusives, which is a pathetic monopolistic practice.
I think the FFXIII announcement was not the best thing for Sony, but it was a good decision to let Square accept the money. That way the game will come out faster as it happened with GTAIV, it will be bigger and better, and of course, since it is japanese exclusive, it will increase the install base in Japan. Sony saves money and invests it efficiently on projects of their own.

Even if FFXIII hit 360 in Japan it would not matter, Japanese simply do not give a sh1t about Microsoft or Xbox. For the Japanese personal devices are akin to the DS or Japanese home electronics, for everything else there is something called workplace where they can use Windows all the time. With the money Sony would have saved by letting Square make it completely multiplatform, we could have had another first party game.
Even their TV like service for games was announced for Home ever since it was unveiled during GDC 07, you can play arcade games on Home Halls as you go, except it is more interactive, immersive and social since it uses the Home Space to interact with others. Once HOME arrives, is there a reason to pay for Xbox LIVE? Microsoft did not unveil their Home rip-off unless they think that even qualifies as a rip-off, it is more like a Mii rip-off with a few bells and whistles.
Once Home beta arrives this holiday there will be no reason to pay for Xbox LIVE

Sony is spending money on first parties while Microsoft is seemingly unable to innovate so they have to curry favor with third parties through cash. I have heard the fanboys talk about how GTA4, DMC4 and FFXIII are already multiplatform and how there is no reason to buy a PS3 and they could not be more wrong. GTA4 has sold less than half of what San Andreas Sold even though it is on both platforms and was way more expensive and more hyped than any other game before (except the Halo franchise)...
