The problem is that LOTS of people DON'T have all consoles! Some can't afford multi instead they use all the rest of game money on games.

Yeah man you must be young to ask that question. 3DO....leading tech.......Jaguar leading tech also. I bought everything. So yeah I waited YEARS for Alien vs predator. (game was awesome by the way). But they did the same as Microsoft. VERY LITTLE SUPPORT.
The point of the article is Japan loves quality backed American tech. Heck they like the I phone more than we do it has 75% of the market in Japan and less than 50% in the USA. The gig is up. No more excuses. Plus IPHONE is way more expensive than all three console put together. So support you product. Not enough AAA exclusives in the USA, and very little support in Japan.

Lets be honest here. Without backwards compatibility Xbox would be even father behind. Everyone would love to have backwards compatibility for ever console. It's a option if you dont want it just dont use it. So it matters. PS4 would be stomping x1 in sales even worse of it did not have backwards compatibility.
Now that PS4 is on the cpu/gpu architecture instead of cpu cell/ gpu architecture they will be able to make PS5 backwards compatible with PS4 once PS5 comes...
Too bad there was fools defending the microtransactions. When a game does not have micro transactions they can make the game play less impossible with endless grinding which prompts you to purchase microransactions. They know who they are!
