I started gaming from Atari era and i will be 30 this year. In somepoint i'm questioning if i can do it more. But i got some new motivation to continue gaming when i'm seeing some people in here who older than me and they still gaming ^^
Politics is not the problem with XII story. The only main problem is Matsuno doesn't have the chance to finished all of his work for XII, including the story, because he got problem with his health. Than SE replaced Matsuno with other people who had difference direction compare to him. As you can see, the result is lot of fans felt dissapointed with the story.

Imho, the most mature FF story is FF Tactics. You can have all elements from politics, love, revenge, friends became enemy, etc in this game. The characters also very believeable.
I also like XII, but because Yasumi Matsuno got out in the middle of the project, the story felt rushed / unfinished. If only Matsuno doesn't have problem with his health, i'm sure XII will be as amazing as Tactics.
I'm gonna wait the result of FF XV. If it's great than i believe they can pull FF VII remake that stick with the original. But if not, than i think we should forget it and move on to the next FF (FF XVI, etc).
I had the same feeling with you mate. Really sad when creative games like LBP / Tearaway doesn't sell gangbusters like CoD. Not only that, some people still bashed and looking down at LBP too.

Sooner or later, i think they will release D5 for PS4 and Vita. But i can see NIS making new IP's for both platform too.

I'm still waiting for FF Type-0, VC III, and Yakuza: Black Panther got remaster & localized for vita. But so far i'm satisfied with vita. Of course it needed some big titles like GTA, GoW, GT, or Bioshock. Sooner or later i'm sure they will come. And while waiting them to come, i'm gonna enjoying Dangan Ronpa, Toukiden, SS Delta, Freedom Wars, etc ^^

Right now i'm playing Muramasa Rebirth, Soul Sacrifice, Dangan Ronpa, Toukiden, and YS Celceta. All of them are amazing and worth owning. Not only that, Gravity Rush, Tearaway, and UC: GA also worth owning.

I think gamers gotten better, especially for gamers from the era of 8/16/32 bit. In that era, we used to tackle very difficult or even 'impossible to finish' games. So we've already had the skill to beat the A.I of this era.
The 1st Batman game that i played and the hardest too, besides The Adv. of Batman and Robin for Genesis.
The 1st game still a great game and 2nd runner obviously better than the 1st. But i like the part when we travelling / eksploring between towns in the 1st game to search sub-weapons.
Two thing for sure though:
1) Music for the 1st and 2nd ZoE are some the best that i ever heard in video game. Especially theme song "Kiss me Sunlights" and "Beyond the Bounds".
2) I WANT MY ZOE 3, ASAP!!!!!
