Seriously you gotta ask that? Unlike every other medium, gaming is an active medium rather than a passive one. As such it requires far more investment in time, data and cost from its consumers than other entertainment mediums. Examples like Fortnite are rather simple games compared to the AAA titles that regularly release on consoles and PC.

My guess is that with the rise of the indie market those kind of developers would rather put their games on actual digital storefronts where they can make profit rather than on browsers for free
