This isn't suprising. Mobile cpu's and gpu's have come a long way, and continue to improve year after year.

The only problem is the shitty on screen controls. BUT, get a moga pro controller, and suddenly your tablet/phone becomes an excellent gaming machine, especially for travelling

The trouble is that 8gb of GDDR5 is travelling across quite a slow memory bus, which will limit it's potential somewhat. It's enough for 1080p, but not really anything beyond. Which makes sense I suppose, as 1080p is the target for this console gen. Going for a wider bus would make it more expensive.

PC's will have no problem 'keeping up' - Cards today have a lot more shaders (which is the main thing, not memory) higher gpu clocks ,faster memory bandwidth,...

It's not 'to bad' - PC gamers tend to buy the consoles aswell - what's $399 to a PC gamer? practically nothing.

Yet you're stuck on the same console for 10 years. Can't afford a gaming PC, so you visit gaming websites to bash PC, in an attempt to feel slightly better about your poverty.

Next gen should be fun. I'm looking forward to playing Naughty Dog games in 1080p (finally!), and multiplats in 4K on my PC. I've seen how good...

I can afford a PS4 to go with my Gaming PC, and I will get one on release day.

You can't afford a Gaming PC.

Maybe if you spent more time studying rather than making fanboy comments on the internet, you'd be able to afford both too.

Microsoft did a fantastic job.... of convincing me to buy a PS4

The Xbox One seems like a classic case of trying to do too many things, and doing them all poorly... rather than doing a few things well

Don't get me wrong, PC is still my platform of choice. Any game that is available on PC and PS4, I will get the PC version for 2560x1600 gaming

But for my console exclusives, it'll have to be a PS4. I want my console to play games, not s...

@Codey47

The difference is, if you own a titan, you're probably gaming at 2560x1400 or above. At extreme resolutions like this, large amounts of GDDR5 is needed, which is why it has 6gb.

This 6gb is dedicated mostly to just the GAME, because the PC has RAM modules to take care of OS, and everything else

KEY POINT ****The PS4 has unified memory, so the 8gb must take care of EVERYTHING****

For the game itself, at 1080p or b...

8gb ram? 16gb ram? 400000000000gb ram?

It won't make much difference if you're maxing out your cpu and gpu

The increased RAM is there to help the PS4 cope with all it's social features, such as chat, video uploading, etc etc

It won't suddenly make your games look better

Maybe at 720p 30fps, but still only a maybe, this game is known to be very cpu intensive

But that's what happens when you go with a tablet cpu

The most worrying thing: You would expect bottlenecks (CPU in this case) to be a problem a few years into the console's lifecycle, not before the damn thing is even released!

A hypothetical low/mid range GPU with 32gb of GDDR5 would get outclassed by a high end GPU with 3gb of GDDR5.

Memory is rarely a bottleneck, unless gaming at extreme resolutions (1080p isn't extreme). Suddenly having free memory won't make your games look better.

Stream processors are what counts.

Think of the PS4 as an average marathon runner with expensive trainers (the 8gb RAM) on. The trainers might help the average runner a bit, ...

Also, having free memory available isn't that much of a big deal. If the headline was

"Killzone Shadowfall only uses 30% of GPU", there would be reason to get excited

But having memory available won't let you do much more, if you're already maxing out the cpu and gpu

4782d ago 2 agree3 disagreeView comment

If PC gamers want Killzone Shadow Fall, they can buy a PS4. They're PC gamers, a few hundred dollars is nothing to them

If a console gamer wants Crysis 3 at 2560x1600, well, I guess you can always watch it on youtube :)

Yet another idiot that thinks selling cheap console chips is a GPU manufacturer's main goal

Nvidia are DOMINATING, arguably a bit too much, which allows them to charge such high prices.

I wish things were more equal, competition is good for us consumers, but AMD are genuinely in serious trouble

That's the issue - "all that power" is an illusion, and the usual hype before a system is released. Looking at it, it's a logical design (especially in this economy), but it's not very powerful at all

Developers will likely have to make a choice

1080p, 30fs
720p, 60fps
4k, 2 fps (lol)

The only way to have both a high resolution, and high frame rate, is with a PC. Though with that said, I wouldn't call...

And they say PC gamers are the weirdos - nope!

4798d ago 6 agree2 disagreeView comment

No. GPU memory is rarely a bottleneck, and when it is, it's because you're running the game at 2560x1600 (or above)

No PS4 game will be 2560x1600

In most cases, the GPU bottleneck is due to stream processors. The PS4 GPU has an ok amount, considering they have to hit a cheap price point, but not a great amount either. However I don't think the GPU will bottleneck the PS4, as there are weaknesses in other areas.

CPU is rarely a bo...

LOL!!! You win the reward for dumbest console gamer comment 2013

Those games aren't running at native 1080p. They're being upscaled.

- When you turn your PS3 on, the XMB is 1080p

- Now load up your game

- Press the PS button for the XMB, whilst playing the game - all the XMB buttons are bigger, and nowhere near as sharp. WHY? Because the game is running at a much lower res than 1080p

Battlefield 4, confirmed 720p by devs. Killzone shadowfall, clearly running at a horrible 30fps. I could go on

Articles like this come out before every console trying to hype it up. Wasn't too long ago I was hearing about all the amazing things the ps3's cell processor was supposed to do. 1080p 120fps if I remember correctly! LOL

Yet still can't run games at 1080p 60fps

4800d ago 2 agree28 disagreeView comment

It seems that these consoles always have a bottleneck to reach that low price point. For the ps3 it was the RAM, and arguably the gpu

For the ps4 they've corrected the memory issue, but forgotten about the cpu - 1.6ghz tablet?! REALLY?! is that piece of rubbish seriously supposed to be powering games in 2018?

I can see the gist of developer articles in 2015 now - "We really wanted to do it, but the tablet cpu just wouldn't allow it"

Finally, the game is installed! I can play :D
