If you crash your car in GT5 and you carry on your doing it wrong. You already lost the chance of getting the best time possible which is what real life racing is about.
Once I crash I just restart.
GT5 should have totaled cars from early on though.

I signed up they day the gave out Killzone 3 to all PSN Plus members and I got the 3 month package but I think I will get another 15 months with automatic download while am on holiday (so it will switch on the PS3 and download all the PSN Plus stuff automatically :D)
