Sony has a pretty deacent track record for supporting their old gen machines after a new has come out. Atleast thats the case with both Ps2 and Ps3. And instead of putting their first party on it this might be a viable option.

I dont think 12 Gigaflops or 15 Gigaflops mathers. But of course you need more cpu, gpu, ram, faster hdd's etc. Otherwise a new generation is unecessery, developers need to be able to get the tools to evolve gaming.
