I found the Demo to be mediocre but don't forget that there really aren't more games coming out for Summer...

Halo 3 is still the second most played game on Xbox Live (based on Unique Users) so Halo 3 is nowhere near dead. The player counter on Halo 3 has experienced problems in the past so it's nothing to be worried about.
And regarding the DLC lock, if you bought Halo 3: ODST, you were given a second disc which contained Halo 3 Multiplayer with ALL of the DLC.
