Thats what I was thinking too until I realised the biggest competitor Apple has is Microsoft.
Plus they are lacking on the gaming front compared to Microsoft which has done all it has to starve Mac users of major games.
Theoretically the PS4 could be a fully updated OS that works with Gaikai and runs on the PS3... The PS3 runs the Operating System and the games run on Gaikai!
Its not going to happen obviously but yeah it "would" be possible to get the same graphics as the PS4 this way main difference would be that instead of selling you a PS4 they would sell you a cheap PS3 and invest the rest of the money to upgrade their servers then rent out the service to you via a subscription...
4G+Gaikai would be a sweet combo as long as the data prices become affordable!
Lets see how well 4G will do.

So even if the PS4 "fails" (although I would not consider a product that sells dozens of millions a fail) in the sales department it doesn't mean it won't be an awesome system to own for us gamers on this site!

The jump between PS2/Xbox and Wii is similar to PS3/360 and Wii U...
It worked for them last time so they are trying the same tactic again lets see how it goes.
Edit: Also if I was thinking about buying a Wii U (which I wont because I am waiting for PS4 and 720 to come out before I decide) I would be very cautious about how much Nintendo will focus on hardcore gamers. Zombie U looks great but I do not feel like games like that will be Nintendos main focus.
Then again 23 slots covered in 48 hours is a lot slower than 13-16 covered in 1 hour.
Unless we get unit numbers though we can't say much.

4k? I rather have one of those 55" OLED screens that are rolling out... I can't wait till the prices drop OLED is magical on my phone I can't imagine what it would be like in a dark living room :D
Which sucks for the poor folks because in the end its not about how much skill you have but how deep your or your parent's pockets are :/

I like the $60 system and maybe a FEW map packs (1 or 2) at around $5 if the game is keeping me interested for over 6 months.
I hate publishers like EA though who milk games to death with expansion packs -.-

Technology gets cheap fast and gets outdated even quicker! 13 Years ago TVs that now cost $900 would have been science fiction!
What makes you think that TV technology will slow down so much over the next 13 years?
4K could be affordable along with OLED (which is actually cheaper to produce than LCD and Plasma) in under 5 years.
What about mini PSN games? If the PS3 could do 1080p games why couldn't the PS4 run games on the similar low graphical level but in 4k?

The problem I have had with this kind of unlocks whether it came as a free cheat code or in this case paid content was that as soon as I cheated to unlock everything it would be exciting for an few hours while I tried everything new but VERY soon the whole game would get really boring and pointless because I had already acquired everything.
