They would be $100 million down if their $100 million marketing budget increased global sales by 0%.
You really think $100 million is a lot in a multi billion dollar industry? Are you from a communist country or something?
They wouldn't "invest" $100 million if they thought they wouldn't see a return on it.
It funny how last gen is also the PS3 generation but this game still manages to look like last last gen.
@Lior
I agree, Crytek makes interesting benchmark "software" for the PC.
A movie studio is not the best studio because of visual effects.
A game developers is not the best because of graphics.
Crytek make great looking games but I always found Crysis very boring! There are studios out there that create full packages like Naughty Dog, Bungie, Rockstar... they offer great gameplay, great atmoshpere, Great Dialogue and story telling. That is what makes a game and these are the studios that I listen to.
Meh if anything this is just giving them extra attention and when it finally shows a second reveal as all gaming media and tech pages in newspapers or shows like click will show off the pictures.
It doesn't matter if you care what the console looks like or not. You will get to see it way before the release and at least we have learned what it aims to be capable off.
@Septic
Look at it this way.
Your casual gaming friends heard about the P...
The Xbox could be the Wii of the next generation. It would win in that case in terms of sales but I wouldn't care about it.
This is just a speculation.
I am waiting for E3 before I decide what direction I am going although if things seem equal again like the last gen I will have to go for the PS4 because I am all ready a fan of some Playstation exclusives.
This rumors opinion and speculation pieces are going to far! Wait for E3 13!
@zeal0us I said the same thing about the PS4 because Sony was pushing NFS in so many of its devices from the new Xperia phones to its TVs Sony headphones and even speakers. I assumed we would be able to touch an Sony phone to a PS4 controller and our phones screen would pop up on the PS4 live.
Lets hope they left that out for E3 because they only wanted to focus on games at their meeting. However I think it would be a sweet feature that would encourage people to purchase mult...
@Ashunderfire86 PS3 was announced at E3 2005 not 2006.
@Saigon
The author shouldn't write articles about something he hasn't researched. It was gameplay:

Notice how this demo plays differently from the one on the 20th of February!
OS costs? Gaikai? Destiny exclusive DLC? Marketing? R&D?
In business we don't just count the parts of the product. You can't just ignore fixed costs.
However it is likely that they will sell at a loss for the first year or so just to increase the user base and better their chances of getting a return from videogame sales in the long run.
Ok so for 500 euros you have something similar to the PS4. Then why not buy a PS4 when it will likely be around the same price? And then you can play Crysis 3 and you can play all the PS4 exclusives on top and you can have the seamless connectivity.
No steam, no origin, no uplay.
One network where all your friends are and you can message no matter what game they are playing?
Simply just a box for roughly the same price as your PC roughly the ...
And one more thing when you compare specs for specs you will see one thing. No PC built with PS3 specs could run a game like The Last of Us on 512mb of RAM. So when did we forget all of the sudden what happened last gen and start comparing the PS4 CPU and GPU to a standard PC?
I like how people state the 8800GTX outperformed the PS3 1 year after its release even though the launch price of the GFX card alone was $600.
Compare a $600 system built in 2006 (with 512mb of RAM) and then tell me if it could possibly run games at the same level as The Last of Us.
That is the difference between consoles and custom built PCs optimization.
I thought we saw them in the presentation having cross game video chat :S
I think the guys problem is that he didn't realise that a bomb had just blown up and the town was full of smoke in the fighting screens -.-
All I know is that comparing specs for specs is completely pointless because if you compare a PS3 to a PC with a Geforce 7800 and 512mb of RAM I can bet you you couldn't get it to run a game like the Last of Us
I don't know what they were thinking with that controller but yes I think we are all glad.
DualShock has been around for so long now that making any bigger changes then what they have done with the DS4 would seem odd.
DS4 seems like a great improvement over DS3.
Very true, I didn't think about it that way.
Once the picture of the PS4 comes out every newspaper tech magazine and only gaming news site will have to publish it along with a second article about the PS4.
I finished watching the conference, realised they didn't show the console and still thought it was a great presentation.
Then the next day on the newspapers I read all these articles about Sony failing to announce the PS4 properly because they didn't show the PS4.
And it got me thinking? Who cares what the PS4 looks like? Sure it is nice to have a sexy looking console but do you buy a console because it is sexy looking?
What is the mo...
If this is true you could plug your PS4 into your 720 :o
But realistically this move is trying to take over all other HDMI devices in the living room. If your Cable box is plugged into your 720 you have to open the 720 every time you want to watch TV.
It will most likely offer recording options so it can persuade people to use it.
