Good read. I totally think that parenting should adapt to the media-saturated environment children grow up in. Gaming for one can be a fantastic tool to educate and share one-on-one time with. Heck, it can be time spend on entertainment as well as education with the parent. It is something overlooked by most parents today, they use games as a tool to just keep kids busy.
What a brilliant read. This is something that I've been wondering abt for some time. The ME3 ending was the worst. You don't see people rage like that in any other entertainment sector. On the 1 hand I can understand a certain amount of feeling, especially with a game like ME, where you journeyed with a char for yrs. You become emotionally invested in the game, and the ending is vital for customer satisfaction.
Another mistake Bioware made was the massive media hype ...
What a fantastic read, like a love letter from a fan
I really wonder abt the effectiveness of all these test methods :S
“things could’ve been different” <-- I agree with you, the power of TWD series lies in how it makes the player doubt his/her own decisions. This also caused the game to become excruciatingly personal. We justify our game decisions in the end by saying we had to survive, all our high ideals, morals and ethics were flung aside in the face of survival. I am so happy to read that #400Days holds the same painful experience.
So where do you draw the line and WHO decides that?
The problem comes when parents ignore those restrictions (as you've explained), then they dare blame the industry!
Must say, so freaking impress with gaming on mobile. This also just pushes gaming on mobile up a notch. Great read
One can never have enough Steampunk
Age restrictions are not only relevant today, IMHO it is a crucial requirement. For example, mys is doesn't know a thing abt gaming, the ONLY guide she goes on for her fanatic gamer kid, is the parental guidance.
Also just cause we see violence & sex everywhere doesn't mean we now have to throw the baby out with the bathwater and call free season to all explicit material, right.
Ditto
What an incredible thought provoking read, so well done! I agree with Del, we will continue to provoke, discuss and talk abt this subject until we have shifted the balance from abusive behavior towards females in the gaming industry towards one of respect and acceptance.
Don't agree here, it's the same then as buying anything, then wanting a refund cause u didn't like it? There's enough reviews and news abt games available BEFORE you purchase. So make an informed decision, if you still don't like the game, suck it up
So true, we want our cake and eat it hey
What a sensitive topic, and calling us all out so severely! For the past couple of years I've not pirated one game, I buy all the games I want to play. Torrenting some other stuff though. Does that make me a thief?
What a great read! I remember play Deus Ex Human Revolution and how it had me thinking abt the consequences of DRM. One of the things is how it will broaden the gap between those who can afford the Internet and technology and those who cannot. It will place the poorer even further back. On the other hand, advancement in technology also brings so many solutions to the world, its benefits cannot be ignored.
Rage at me internet, but I don't get the GTA hype, and yes, I did try it, never liked. According to this article though, I have to admit, GTAV seems like an upgrade from the previous titles
Well now...what a surprise :P Good read. Funny it came from Australia. Maybe now people will look to where the real cause for anti-social behavior starts, at home.
This game is on my to play list for sure
Makes me sick. This poor kid will probably reap the consequences of this for the rest of his life. he has been traumatized on multiple levels. I do think he is being used as an example, it is unfair and a shame to the American Legal System.
On the other hand, everyone should wisen up on how they behave online.
