is no joke and requires quite a lot of power.I'm not saying it's not possible

Microsoft is not really helping their situation this way by being the middle men and also asking more money to have
dedicated server access.You're literally paying 3 times the money ( ISP,Gold,DLC) to access a dedicated server.
It's optional yet not really since you have to have Gold in the first place.
There's one problem with your analogy though,they chose to have outdated hardware from the get go.
They went cheap for obvious reasons and in prior generations the hardware used was always behind
the evolution of hardware just simply because of the time it takes to design a piece of hardware.
In this particular case they went with a low powered CPU solution.The CBE in the PS3 is still a very
capable CPU but even that was outdated in a few yea...
So... people accept that the iPhone comes out every year and that there's no reason why a console shouldn't have a similar model to give people updated hardware.It's weird to see though that people disagree with you when you make a simple observation of skipping systems because a majority will buy the inferior system from the get go.
