I dont want to hurt Wii fans but Wii IHMO doesnt deserve to be called a next-game console. I'll try to explain my opinion. Actually it can be cleared in 2 simple questions:
What is needed to add the Wii functionality to 360 or PS3? A 3d controller with gyroscopes and telemetric sensor to get its absolete position in 3D space. For PS3 it is even telemetric sensor only. I think both consoles have enuff processor power to work up info from such controller in real time.

this technological issue isnt resolved yet. Mainboard bends on CPU/GPU heat. The result is destruction and 3 rings of death.
ps2 had no sh!ty lasers. The issue came with modified units. On "chippd" units' DVD-drives spin pirated game DVDs constanly that caused fast drives mulfunctions. On original units DVD-ROMs worked only on read/write request and I have the unit manufactured in 2002 that still reads even heavily scratched disks.
It is widely known fact. It is strange that you dont know it having owned so many console system.

Ana video chip doesnt perform any upscaling like PS3 does. In terms of Sony upscaling is the transcoding of existing SD resolution data into Hd using interpolation, edge smothing etc. algorithms in real time. Ana scaling chip has a lil different purpose: it converts 720p signal into 1080i for, as it was said, "compatibility with older HDTV sets".
