I think what the author means is that betas were made for fixing the game, whilst demos are meant to showcase the game to potential buyers.
However, in more recent terms (and especially in MMORPGs), betas are more often than not used as a marketing tool in itself for people to get a "first look" at the game, hence the "death of demos".
Interesting. No movie tie-in this time?
I agree with most of the points on there. I disagree about the ammo counter, though... if a game is designed to be fast-paced, then removing the ammo counter severely degrades the action.
Though I admit, it would be amusing to watch two guys run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight...
Yeah, Trackmania! It's free AND it has a track editor. Greatest tool ever.
Is this their new excuse to release more games with DRM? That the sales for AC2 on PC were "good"?
Exotic cards, beautiful locales, kickass pursuits.
That's how the original Hot Pursuit was, and that's the new one should be, too.
Wait...
Who the hell is she?
Awesome. Loved the first game.
They said in the original press conference that OnLive was only designed as a complement to the consoles, not a direct replacement.
You must be easily amused.
Mmm, IMAX-quality lancer chainsaw scene...
Looks good. Now, about Obsidian.
They're great story-tellers, but they tend to suffer in the gameplay department quite a bit.
As my friend says:
"The $15 fee keeps all the noobs out."
After playing a couple of weeks on his official WoW account on a new character, I can see how true he really was. Now, I've been a mostly F2P person my entire life, having gone through 25+ F2P games and always ending up quitting them out of sheer boredom or complete lack of quality, so that's saying a lot.
"20 hours" assuming you do nothing but blast through the main story, I hope.
The only reason why WAR stagnated was it had a conflict of interest of what it was going to be. Mythic, the developers, were known for creating Dark Age of Camelot, an MMO with a dedicated fanbase. The DAoC players joined WAR and started advocating mechanic changes to things that mirrored DAoC. Mythic was split from comments of the fanbase between trying to turn WAR into another DAoC, or trying to make the game into something unique. The ensuing conflict (and various crap that happened afterw...
Just think about it, guys. The development team for this game is made of FIVE PEOPLE.
Yep. FIVE PEOPLE.
The game to me, looks swell. They're going on a right path with this, and from what I've seen from it, their new engine has no hitches, which is great.
Which brings me to another point, one that I've had floating around for a while. Since Bethesda is now owned by ZeniMax (Bethesda Softworks), maybe they could perhaps USE id's new engine to create future RPGs (TES V is what I had in mind).
That's some wicked headshot practice.
Nothing like a couple dozen running zombies to get you to aim true.
Maybe they should try to sell the game more before slapping on a subscription tag. I've seen other MMOs at E3 and they all had more coverage than this game.
When the internet evolves and high speeds become commonplace, yes.
But until then, no.
