What its needs is a better middleware and support from Sony so that it'll make it easier for third party developers to get to grips how the PS3 works. As for this new SKU, why, its not really needed yet (maybe in a year or two's time when hd material gets into full flow), what is needed right now is for Sony to conentrate on getting the games sorted out, they've done half the battle of bringging out the cheaper SKU, so there's no need for a more expensive one right now.
