I don't know if there were any console (except PC) that had BC (Los PC BC. It sounds nice), but it was a huge thing.

PS3 and Xbox 360 gamers are switching to PS4 because they want a taste of next-gen. So what if the PS4 and Xbone aren't backwards compatible? Did you skip the Wii U because GameCube GC was taken out? Did PS3 gamers abandon the PS3 once PS2 GC was gone? Did Nintendo fans skip the GameCube because Nintendo has finally went with discs (several years late to the party), and the GC wasn't BC with those hundreds of dollars worth of N64 cartridges?

People have different ideas of fun.
There are people from the Nintendo camp, who have fun playing games like Animal Crossing (building your own second world), Mario Kart (just the pure fun of having a group of friends or family playing a game of racing that doesn't take itself seriously), Zelda (the fun of being in another world with a great story, fun and dangerous areas filled with monsters, being a legendary hero), etc.

The game on Survivor p!ssed me off in some areas, but overall was pretty fun and intense trying to find ways to beat an area with the least amount of health and ammo lost. Also, was just fun and relaxing blowing off everyone's heads :D
