Insomnia_84 - Well chaosx does have a point. FreeBSD is at the core of PS4 as well as Apple OSX. very stable but for software development, their tools as slow, cumbersome and WAAAAY behind the times.
Say what you like about the competition, but their app dev tools are excellent. I should know I use both eclipse / Rational Tools and Visual Studio.net on a regular basis. The difference in speed of development is staggering. It is what it is..
I feel for you guys, honestly I do.
The console is not just "about that games" but a blend of games AND features. All PS4 owners deserve excellent features along with their games.
I think the reason things are taking so long is the use of FreeBSD as the core on PS4, Apple use it too and the software really does take a LOOONG time to build and test. It probably explains why apple software is a little on the rubbish side.

Microsoft built the xbox brand from the ground up and it's great. It's their's, they didn't buy it they built it.
Sony did the same with Playstation but despite their serious financial problems, nobody is suggesting the same for them.

First Fayz says that the PS4's hardware is nothing spectacular, which is true. Then he draws a comparison to hardware & games against sales. As you know the PS2's hardware was a LOT weaker than the Original Xbox but Xbox still lost due to less games, another valid point.

Systems go down, it's a certainty in life. It's how the company handles the crisis and get back up and running in hours instead of days that makes the difference. Can someone teell me how long each one has had downtime this time round, from first reports of a service outage to resolution for both Microsoft and Sony?

This is infrastructure and development, I only understand it because I'm an Infrastructure Architect (Hybrid and Cloud).
