that isnt really the reason. made in japan is a selling point, made in america isn't... even in america the most patriotic nation there is. made in japan = quality in the eyes of the electronics world. now even though they are not made in japan, the company is japanese, so they see it from a design point

my theory is - get a 3D projector. you won't use a projector all the time and you won't want 3D all the time but you will want 3D in a projector. Projection is the only way to go for 3D and 2D.
Projectors are better then TVs any day for games and movies.

@Soldier one. we wouldn't hear about it in another industry. my best friende works in Sony Warranty dept and there are certain TV models that they expect to have pretty much 100% failure rate - 46" X series from about 1.5 years ago is one definite one. no exaggeration but i'm sure the PS3 fanboys won't believe me because i mentioned their deity. it is the only fact i know about them.
