May I add that Sony and Nintendo were offered 3D camera hardware, not skeletal tracking. That is the heart and soul of Kinect.
May I also highlight that it has a few things none of the other camera can match:
- "multi-array" microphone that has been designed to spacially locate incoming sounds, not just ONE regular microphone attached. That is why Kinect is so wide and not short like other cameras.
- tilt motor for sensor adjustment

I think the PS3 is a fantastic blu-ray player and probably among the best. It will also be the gold standard for whatever support you will get from future Blu-Ray features.
However, for the wast majority of people that don't play games, use a HTPC like device or browse the internet on their TV the PS3 isn't for them. A standard Blu-Ray player name brand like Sony can be had for around $100 these days.
For most people the strategy should be buy what ...
Well, how long did it take before you got your 2 analog sticks, a d-pad, 4 button, 2 bumpers and 2 triggers from a d-pad with 2 buttons?
It has taken almost 20-30 years for that evolution to happen. Do you think the d-pad with 2 buttons is something we can use today for FPS?
You telling me that you want that shortened to a year all of a sudden?
You define the experience based on what the weaknesses AND STRENGTH are in the input system. This...
I didn't know the PS Move bundle didn't come with a full game, but instead a demo disc:
"The starter pack will offer hours of entertainment. It has one Move controller, a PlayStation Eye camera and a disk with nine demos."
I wish MS did include the Legendary Edition, but $500 is hard sell to anyone so it is understandable.
If you really wanted it you can still get it. If you were willing to pay $500 for the bundle, then $50 bucks more isn't going to hurt you as bad for the Legendary Edition. Besides you can always sell the standard edition that comes with the bundle.
Games that just refine current experiences i.e. MW2, Uncharted 2 and etc, take at least 18 months to create from scratch. That is using existing game play mechanics, controller experience and re-using assets. You got Kinect with a whole new set of problems and want that game out in a year?
Seems a little unfair to Kinect, don'tcha think?
Probably because if they included the LE with the Xbox 360 LE console, they would have to charge you at least $500. That is hard to swallow for most, even the hardcore fans.
Very tempted, but must resist. I already have a Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and even a Nintendo DS. Then I just bought a graphics card for the PC as well. Sadly for being such a bad economy, I'm finding myself spending more money than ever.
I think the fact that Wii Fit sold 22+ million units alone (at MSRP of $100) tells you that the industry is certainly moving towards casual gaming. Like it or not, that is the way it is heading.
Even games like Rockband/Guitar Hero is more casual oriented and those have sold great as well.
You mean like in the Vietnam war? Just in the jungle instead.
Try getting mocap anywhere else for $150!
I bet to rroded, the latest Intel CPU sold at $500 looks cheap too.
Because hardcore games are harder to nail down the experience as that crowd is much more demanding. In addition, releasing information too early will give away the competitive edge. Something that is especially important to Kinect in my opinion due to the whole new experience thing. Game play mechanic is easily stolen.
Announce it when it is closer to release.
"I'm surprised the 360 has only sold 60m more than the PS3 considering it had the market all to itself for one full year. Amazing how fast Sony has closed this gap."
Actually that is kind of impressive considering if you split up the sales numbers over 5 years, it is right on target. Also, the Sony numbers are a whole quarter after MS i.e. March 2010 as opposed to December 2010. Most of Sony's heavy hitters hit in the February - March period of 2010.

This is a user video so yes, it will be grainy and to the side. If I showed you a nice clear HD video you would complain it was staged by MS. That is a user video showing the guy jumping around, doing all sorts of moves to test Kinect and it tracks it. Even when the guys legs cross behind is left leg and is obscured.
What more do you want in a video?
edit below @Pillville: No, software is a moving target. You release what you have now so you can continue to f...
You are absolutely right. Consoles have limitations on RAM. The 360 has a total of 512 MB shared memory. Take away the 32 MB memory footprint for the OS and you are left with not much to work with.
PS3 has even less, 256 MB for general processing on the CPU and 256 MB for graphics use.
The good news and in some way the bad is that the resolution is relatively low compared to PC games. So even if you had more RAM the effects would be marginal noticeable.
I would say that is within a margin of error, when the difference is roughly 2%. Besides, I don't think a game receiving 2 point difference on a scale of a hundred makes a difference.
They really should switch to the typical A- and B+ type scale. It is either excellent, great, good/average and avoid unless you are a huge fan!
Great comment!
In all seriousness though, those people are speaking Chinese. Sounds like Cantonese, so my guess it is in Hong Kong.
None the less hilarious comment.
This game looks interesting to me.
You know, you are right!
I used to jump on the neighbors trampoline and being tired wasn't really an issue. I would just keep going. I was rarely if ever sore the next day and wanted to jump in again. This is very similar to that.
Sony with MS mortal enemy, Google, just 1upped MS!
Then again, Xperia 10, Sony's flagship phone is still running Android 1.6! An upgrade to 2.1 is expected LATER THIS YEAR. That is kind of slow considering everyone else is releasing phones with 2.1 out of the gate and upgrades to 2.2 is expected soon. Makes you wonder what support the PSP phone will get.
If Sony can give the phone the same type of support the PS3 gets without introducing a new model every...
